If you did not understand from the guide, do the following:

    Step1: Check your IP Address
    a) Ensure that you are connected to internet.
    b) From XP Start menu, click run.
    c) Enter cmd in the window and press enter. A command window will open.
    d) Enter ipconfig and hit enter. This will give you your PC's IP address
    e) Note it down.

    Step2: Which port to open?
    a) Start uTorrent
    b) Click Options in the menu at the top of your screen. In the list that drops down click Preferences.
    c) Click Connections on the left hand side of the Utorrent program.
    d) Make sure that 'Randomize port ...' is unchecked.
    e) Make sure the 'Enable UPnP...' box is unchecked.
    f) The number in the Port Used for Incoming Connections box contains the port you need to forward.
    g) Change the port number to any number greather than 11000 but less than 65536.
    h) Note down the port number.

    Step3: Opening the ports
    a) Open your router's config page: http://192.168.1.1
    b) Login to router (defualt = admin/admin)
    c) Click on Advanced tab
    d) From LHS panel, click on Virtual Server
    e) Enter the following:

Private IP: <your PC's IP address from step 1>
    Protocol: ANY
    Local Port: 0
Destination Port From: <the uTorrent port number in Step 2> ~ <the uTorrent port number in Step 2> (this can be a range also)

    f) Click on Apply
    g) Click on Tools menu (tab) from top panel
    h) From LHS panel, select Misc
    i) Click on Save and Reboot option.
    j) Wait for modem to reboot.

    You are done.

    @just4kix
I Dont think there is a virtual server option for UT300R2U.. i have that modem.. it only has the nat-dmz option!!

    @aruncse30
to check if a port is successfully opened.. go to Online Port Scanner | Port Scan | Port Scanning | Portscan Tool and type the Random port number which was generated by utorrent in the "scan a single port number field" and click on the "scan ports" button.. This will tell you if you have successfully opened the port or not!!

@just4kix,it has been reported by various users that the newer supplied ut300r2u modem by bsnl have a custom stripped down firmware version which does not have port forward options.

There is no need to turn of the firewall and indeed you should not do it. Turning off the firewall means you are open to hacking. That is another reason why you must not go the DMZ way. Here is a typical network connection:

Internet (public network) --> Router (with or without Firewall) --> (private network) --> Connected PCs with Windows XP Firewall --> Browser

If you set your PC in DMZ, you are outside the firewall, i.e.,

Internet (public network) --> Router (DMZ) --> PC (DMZ) --> Browser

As you see this is very risky and you will be prone to phishing.

Nope. It does have. At least, my UT-300R2U does.

if you want good speeds for your torrents.. u have to use the DMZ.. no other option.. DMZ is like opening all ports.. and you have to have a good software firewall protecting your computer.. and only open one port for utorrent..
you can download as many files you want using 1 port

aruncse30 why don't you use bridge mode.no trouble of port forwarding.this is what i use & with no problem & it is much safer then pppoe mode for limited plans especially if you are going to connect only one computer to modem.

    Turn on Windows Firewall.

    Control Panel - Category View
Start Menu --> Control Panel --> Security Settings --> Windows Firewall --> Select 'On' and uncheck 'Do not allow exceptions'

don't worry friend.it take some time.i never used torrents in my entire life before.i just read & read for 2-3 days about all there is to know about torrents/settings/modem/port forwarding etc. & here i am today.same is the case with modem.

both DMZ & bridge mode are a security risk without firewall so my suggestion is go for bridge mode.just edit your connection settings & select type of connection as "bridging".nothing else to change.only change is that now you have dial from windows using your username/password instead of just turning on the modem in pppoe mode.

Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

actually its even better.you don't have to reboot the modem.you just have to disconnect & then again reconnect & it can be done easily by 2 .bat files.here----
paste these lines in notepad & save files as connect.bat & disconnect.bat

    for disconnect.bat---
    rasdial "bsnl" /disconnect
    for connect
    rasdial "bsnl" ******_***@bsnl.in password
where bsnl is the name of my connection(it depends on what name you give to your connection)
    ******_***@bsnl.in is my username
    password is my password

schedule these .bat files to run at 1:55AM(disconnect) & 2:05AM(connect) then again run disconnect.bat at 7:55AM
