    Question EVDO Static Shared IP

Dear EVDO users I am planning to buy a EVDO, But when i am reading a review on some other forum it says that BSNL EVDO uses Static Shared IP.

And Many users getting IP address as 218.248.68.162. And whenever they try to download a file from rapidshare, it gives a message that u r already doenloading a file.

Currently i am using TATA Indicom and BSNL GPRS. As Tata gives dynamic IP and BSNL GPRS gives static shared ip. Below u can also find it out

MY test for Tata and BSNL

    1. For Tata

Here u see a IP address by running ipconfig and at ipligence is same (circled). And whenever u disconnect and reconnect both changes.

    Means Dynamic IP

    2. For BSNL GPRS

Here u see IP address's are different (circled) and whenever diconnect and reconnect and run ipconfig again the IP address changes but In ipligence it remains same. i.e; 218.248.65.65

    Means Static Shared IP

So please run ipconfig (and below I am posting a dynamic link of IPligence which show ur IP address) if both are same then EVDO uses dynamic IP otherwise Static Shared IP and whether u get error on raidshare.

PLZ Test it by Disconnecting and Reconnecting a connection 1-2 times and also each time run ipconfig and refreh this page.

    Waiting for reply

    Thanks

very few people here used EVDO(very less availability as it is in a testing phase & usually available at small towns/remote areas) & my suggestion is confirm at your local exchange whether they have EVDO equipment installed otherwise you will get an EVDO card but will only get a speed of 144kbps.
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

In My area EVDO is installed (BSNL guys says so)

But my main concern is Whether EVDO use Static Shared IP or Dynamic IP

lets just hope bsnl guy know what he is saying.where are you anyway cause this service is mostly present in kerela(some areas & not definitely big cities).in my view EVDO should use static shared IP as most wireless networks use this setting especially since EVDO is in a testing phase.

    Dear Amit,
BSNL is providing Dynamic IP (Since in dial up software of EVDO its Dynamic) but i agree it shows already download message in rapid share downloads.

I will check this issue myself because many people (nearly 50) are using this service. I will try to check their IP Address also.

i think this means bsnl EVDO uses static shared IP just like bsnl GPRS.

rock_daring,what you need to know is not the dynamic IP given by EVDO but the actual IP which is visible to sites like rapidshare.click on this link--
Find My IP Address - Lookup
if the IP you get is different from the one EVDO gives then EVDO uses static shared IP.

    Dear Amit,
I am using evdo here at Cochin and Bsnl in the leaflet given along with the usb modem has mentioned (handwritten) it is shared IP. I am always getting this IP no 218.248.68.63 I dont know other users here and so I am not sure whether it is same for all
Regarding the speed it is only 30Kbps (240kbps) average . Most of the time it is working as 2000 1x instead of EVDO

When I tried to download from Rapid share I get the message
"Your IP-address 218.248.68.63 is already downloading a file. You have to wait until it is finished.Premium-accounts can download many files at the same time. Get your own Premium-Account now. Instant download-access!If you are not downloading anything, you are using a proxy-server or a shared IP-address. A Premium-account solves this problem as well."

Actually I have not downloaded anything from Rapid share for past one month
Today I talked to SDE here at Cochin It is confirmed EVDO is Static shared IP.When downloading through Broadband when the limit of 100mb is reached Just switch off the modem and again on. Then you can download another 100mb with one or two minutes wait time

this works only if you have a dynamic IP.it will not work for Static shared IP because even after restarting modem your IP given by EVDO will change but not the actual IP which is visible to rapidshare.

Unhappy It is static IP - IT IS USELESS FOR MANY USERS

I confirm that BSNL EVDO uses static shared IP. 218.248.68.63.
This is dangerous to use if you download a lot from rapidshare. Because a lot of users will be using the IP address eventhough our system is assigned "10.x.x.x" ip address.

This is much more dangerous if you subscribe to popular web services like filehosting, etc. Because they cannot see your IP in the range 10.x.x.x instead they see only the main BSNL IP which is 218.248.68.63 - and all users under this BSNL IP may get the benefit of your membership.

I am gonna quit using BSNL EVDO.

But if you only use internet to only browse, check emails, watch youtube videos, you will have no problem. You will surely get a decent speed if you are nearer to the town areas.

I THINK ALMOST 90% OF THE BSNL OFFICERS ARE IGNORANT OF TECHNICAL SIDE. SO DON'T EXPECT MUCH FROM THEM IN CASE YOU GET INTO TROUBLE IN FUTURE LIKE SLOW CONNECTION, NO CONNECTION, ETC.

    Dear all,
I'm vivek stayin at outskirts of chennai, near poonamalee, i got an evdo connection few days back. It is the only option if i had to get a broadband. and the worst part is i'm not getting download speeds more than 20 Kbps(when using download accelerator) and my torrent download rate is still worser its very rarely i see it crosses 20 Kbps. upload speed is 5 Kbps. Will this improve in future or 'll it be same??? i get only one bar signal...

EVDO is like a big (public) wireless router. The EVDO tower has the real IP connection to the ISP and it distributes private IP addresses to all local users. That is why you will alsways see the same real IP address.

BSNL EVDO uses shared ip hence downloading from rapidshare is not possible unless u have premium account. I am using EVDO in ahmedabad and I am getting 30 Kbps actual d/l speed.

Most of the places on the net i have read that BSNL issues shared ip address. This is partially true. BSNL assigns dedicated (dynamic) ips to the users. Once all the ips are utilized, then ips are shared over by multiple users.

This i have experienced by myself. I download torrents using Bitcomment client.
When i have shared ip, my torrent client shows orange status(which means my listen port is blocked due to having shared ip)
But quite a few times i hav observed a green status in my torrent client. And obviously i get very good speeds which means that i have a dedecated ip assigned to my machine.

So next time if i reconnect, BSNL may assign shared ip. So this is not fixed.
And users may get good speeds when they have a dedicated ip (not counting the signal strength).

    Thanks
    Mazmoiz.

    Default I'm Vivek again :)

I'm an Ex user of EVDO now I've shifted to Reliance WIMAX which was the worst reviewed in all forums. but it is the best connection i ever saw.. Pretty costly, 1123 per month 400 Kbps unlimited. I get around 50 KB/s constant download aswell as torrent download speed i downloaded a maximum of 27 GB a month. In any area where u've no broadband through landline... u can opt for this one...
