Anything that is light on resources, reasonably fast and free would get my vote. Hence it goes to µTorrent.

uTorrent is just a software to download using torrents.there are various other similar softwares available but 2 most popular ones are uTorrent & azureus.uTorrent is very small(only ~300kb)while azureus is 6MB & azureus runs on java & hence consumes much more CPU/RAM.here are guides for uTorrent.read these especially beginner's guide to get an idea about torrents.

Default best p2ps are

1.utorrent
2.Ares

utorrent is good for torrents, because its light and fast, the s/w is updated every once in a while.

Ares is best p2p bcos u can search for any old movies that are not available in most of the torrent banks.

Also u can add a torrent in ares, which has a built in bittorrent client.

and one more thing is ares unlike torrent doesnt require a 1:1 ratio maintenance, u can unshare the file as soon as it is downloaded.

so if u r member of a forum that follows 1:1 ratio standards, use torrents,

for english movies and albums ares is the best.
for torrents utorrent is well and good as far as i am concerned.

I had been using these two softwares for simultaneous download, With 500 home plan i had downloaded to a max of 5210mb in a single day i.e 2am to 8am

Default Its true

am in office currently. ill take a screenshot of that page from dataone bandwidth finder and post that attachment..

but as u say the download speed has gone down now recently for past 2 months, i suppose thats bcos of the increase in users.

but i reached a max of more than 5000mb one night. ill post the proof soon.

actually it depends on how many users are downloading at that moment.in small cities where people don't or rarely use 2-8AM slot you may be able to get 220-230KBps.

I too vote for utorrent as it is very light and damn easy to use and don't mess up in between downloads, most of the time. I also preferred limewire too.

Default Utorrent is fine, but for immediate download EMULE ROCKS!!!

Many may not have heard of but EMULE hosts the largest no of p2p users at any time due to its gnutella and edonkey network.Way much more results than torrents .Although with rare items less no of seeders but still will be able to complete download.I use both

make sure your ports are open.. in utorrent ,there is a preferences button.. click that and check out which port is used.. go to an online port scanner website, type that port and check if its successfully opened...You need to open a port in order to get good speeds
Another reason could be very less people seeding the torrent.. if a torrent has only about 4 to 5 seeds it could give low speeds..depends on the popularity of the torrent!!

there you go!!!thats the reason for your slow speed..go to utorrent preferences and enter any port no..go to this site Online Port Scanner | Port Scan | Port Scanning | Portscan Tool . .enter that port no in the "scan a single port no"field.. and click on ok.. if it says its open.. then you have successfully opened your port..
if its not opened.. then you either have not opened your ports correctly in your modem/router.. or your software firewall is blocking it!!like windows firewall!!
