| Hi, After many attempts i could finally configure the NetGear Wireless WGR614 Router for my existing BSNL Connection. Steps : 1: Check for : U have BSNL Modem : UT-300R2U (Modem) Wireless Router : NetGear WGR614v7 2: Configuration of modem : The router which BSNL has given is by default run in Bridged configuration.Hence we need to change the working of this modem to PPPoE. Connect this modem to your computer by a LAN cable and in the web browser type http://192.168.1.1 The modem whizard will ask u for username and password. If u have reset the modem then it will be by default Username : admin Password : admin After entering this in the HOME u will find the button for Run Whizard Click it and make sure that popups are enabled. Check this information 3.2.6 SETUP WIZARD – FOR PPPOE/PPPOA CONNECTIONS: 1. Type in the Username and Password used to identify and verify your account to the ISP. 2. If you are instructed to change the VPI or VCI number, type in the correct setting in the available entry fields. Most users will not need to change these settings. The Internet connection cannot function if these values are incorrect. 3. Select the specific Connection Type from the drop-down menu. The available PPP connection and encapsulation types are PPPoA VC-Mux, PPPoA LLC, PPPoE VC-Mux, and PPPoE LLC. Click Next to go to the next window and complete the Setup Wizard. Enter the Username and Passowrd given by the ISP(BSNL) to U. Dont alter other settings. Also Restart the modem by the Button that appears soon after u finish this configuration. After the modem restarts then u need not dial the modem with any username and password. U just need to check directly by opening ur browser whether google or any site opens. If it opens then ur modem part is done. And if no ..please post the error on this post so that we may figure any possible alternative to the problem. 3. Configuration of Router : Now disconnect the modem and now just plug in the lan cable in any of the 4 Out ports of the router and the other end of the cable to the computer. Now in the browser type NETGEAR Support Home Page then enter the username and the password Username : admin Password : password Now go to Basic Settings Tab on the Left : Does Your Internet Connection Require A Login? Yes No Here choose No Account Name (If Required) leave blank Domain Name (If Required) leave bank Internet IP Address : Get Dynamically Domain Name Server (DNS) Address : Get Automatically Router Mac Address : Use Default Then click Apply. The click for the LAN IP on the LHS : Give a suitable IP other than that of the modem....like : 192.168.2.1 255.255.255.0 Leave rest as they are .... Use Router as DHCP Server : Check this check box. Leave the addresses as they are. Then go for Wireless Setup on the LEFT : Give some name to ur Router NEtwork SSID : (Nice name) Region :choose nearest to u(for BSNL choose Asia). Channel : 11 or 6 depends on the interference faced (U can choose 11). Mode :g and b Security Options : WPA-PSK [TKIP] choose this... Give a long encryption key which u can remember ...U need to enter this key once u connect via the wireless medium. Click Apply .... and then connect in the following manner.... Unplug all components.... 1: insert modem output lan cable in the router in port 2. insert router out (either of the 4 ) into LAN port of the computer. 3. Power on the modem first once stable then power on the router. Done...Got any queries do post ...... |

a) Wired router as Bridge, Wireless router in PPPoE. b) wired router in PPPoE, wireless router as bridge c) Both bridged and manual dialers on PC You have used the second method; which is also my preferred method and I was going to suggest the same to you earlier but I did not know your expertise level. Hence I suggested the first method which would not have asked you to change your BSNL router setup. Any way, I have written two guides on wireless network configuration using the first two methods (I have Linksys WRT54G). They are available as 'sticky' posts in this forum. It would be very helpful if you could write a guide (with pictures and all) and I will help you upload the same on these threads.

| please use the info given below exactly as mentioned and it will work 100%.. 1) Disconnect the modem from the router and connect the computer directly into one of the LAN port of the router. You should be getting only power and LAN port (ie. number)light on the router. Please try to reset the router by pressing the reset button (small button inside a circular hole) on the backside of the router for 20 seconds and then release it. Powercycle the unit. 2) Open the browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape). 3) Access the router using http://www.routerlogin.net/basicsetting.htm. 4) Login to the router (User Name = admin Password = password unless you have changed it). 5) Under LAN IP Setup (under the Advanced option)change the IP address of the router from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.5.1, the starting ip address will be 192.168.5.2 and ending ip address will be 192.168.5.50. 6) Click on Apply to save the changes and then you will get the error message as "Action Cancelled" or "Page cannot be displayed". 7) Powercycle the router. 8) Now connect the modem into the internet port of the router. 9) Open the browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape). 10) Access the router (usually http://192.168.5.1). 11) Login to the router (User Name = admin Password = password unless you have changed it). 12) Click on Setup Wizard and then select "Yes" and Click "Next" on the detection window. 13) It should give you a "PPPoE Detected" and then click next 14) Then under login and password type in your login/password for your DSL account (the user name should be full like user@....) and click Apply. 15) Click on Test to test the internet connection. |

I tried the steps that you have posted but it did not work. I am sure I have done the steps correctly. It will always detect it as static IP detected. I am able to access 2 computers when I use the router through LAN. I mean, if I want to transfer files without connecting the modem. Thanks. |

| Setting up Netgear WGR164 is pretty easy but sometimes it may get messy if you are not aware that how you should start. I had a tough time too. First thing that you need to keep in mind is that the CD which comes with the router is absolutely useless and you are all by urself. If it works then you have a reason to celebrate. Just have a look at the link below to setup the Netgear WGR614. It will definitely help you. < TechMate > If router setup detects your connection as static IP then configure your broadband connection in bridge mode and try setting up the router again. It will definitely work. |
