Thread: Can connect thru LAN not thru WAN

I can connect my laptop lenovo to bsnl broadband thru the lan card and LAN
but not via WAN. i hav been provided a siemens SL2_141 wireless modem cum router
the 1394 connector shows connected bbut the lappy cant access it thru the wireless media.
pls help

i am confused.what do you mean by LAN not WAN?a laptop can connect to net either using wired connection or wifi.it can not access through both using same modem.

i installed the modem cum router but i cn connect to the internet only in the WIRED mode
i cant connect it thru wify
the 1394 connection is enabled in my laptop and the siemens device WLAN led is also green

did you enable the DHCP in modem?

noo...and in the ipconfig/all it shows dhcp not enabled
does it hav anything to do with 1394 connection tht shows on? but it says tcpip not set for it
how to enable dhcp for it?

you have to enable DHCP in modem itself.after enabling DHCP in modem also set "obtain IP address automatically" in LAN TCP/IP properties in computer.

You may not have configured the wireless part of your modem properly. 1394 (aka Firewire) has nothing to do with this.

You must enable and configure wireless networking in SL2 141.

how to i configure the wireless part of my modem? also i dint configure the WAN in modem.. but internet is working fine

to configure the wireless part..login to the modem's configuration page(default is 192.168.1.1 username and password is admin)... look for an option called wireless or wifi settings... you normally would find 2 fields..one is the SSID field.. this is the network name.. you can name it anything.. then is the WEP field.. this is like a password.. enter a strong password for security.. you will need ot enter this password whenever you want to connect to your wifi network from your laptop...another options are the choice of CHANNELS... Channel 6 or 11 is recommended!!

but my wireless card was installed but its driver wasnt
and i got confused between 1394 and wireless adapters
so its working now thnx

yeah thts wat was confusing me!1394 is for firewire not wifi!
