Question Require help: connecting Dlink GLB-502T with Netgear WGR614

Hi,

I have been using a D-Link ADSL router GLB-502T for some time and I had configured it in bridge mode. Hence I used to dial from my PC/laptop to connect to the net and it worked without any problems. Subsequently, I have bought a Netgear wireless router WGR614 and connected it to the ADSL router. After a fair bit of struggling, I have managed to set the two up so that I can dial from my desktop and access the internet through the wireless router (which connects to the ADSL). However, in this configuration, the ADSL is in bridge mode and hence if I dial from the desktop and connect, I cannot use the laptop and connect to the net. To resolve this issue, I am trying to set the ADSL in PPPoE mode instead of Bridge but I am unable to get this to work. If somebody has managed to do this, can you please let me know what settings you are using? I have found some notes on this forum for configuring other ADSL routers in PPPoE mode but nothing on configuring DLink routers. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Abhijit

Huh. I needed exactly the reverse. And I too have a Dlink 500T router and WGR614 wireless. I can connect both my desktop and laptop simultaneously but I want it your way. How did you manage to do that?

Are you able to dialup from laptop when PC is not connected. That is my primary requirement.

For simultaneously connecting both PC and laptop simultaneously my Dlink is configured in bridge mode. And WGR614 is configured to connect using specified username and Password which the router automatically dials.

Hi Dhanan,

I have configured my ADSL in bridge mode and the netgear is configured to NOT connect to the ISP directly (another bridge basically). Hence I can connect from whichever machine I dial the connection from and the other machine despite being on the network, cannot access the internet connection. This will probably work for you too.

Regards,

Hi Prash,

I am attaching a screenshot of my PPPoE settings. The problem is that I have never seen the PPPoE LED on the front panel light up. Also, if I check the connection status with this setup I get the message of Modem Hang-up as attached. I've seen a number of forums where members are recommending a firmware upgrade to resolve this PPPoE issue. What is your opinion? Thanks in advance for your time.

Regards,
Abhijit

select"authentication"as "auto"in pppoe settings & tick "enforce MTU".
if pppoe led is not on in adsl modem then this means it is still working in bridge mode.you have to restart the adsl modem for changed settings to apply.

Regards,
A bridge always allows one dedicated internet connection. Hence you will not be able to connect two (or more) machines at the same time.

If this is really your requirement, then keep both routers in bridge mode. However, you are under utilizing your Netgear wireless router. It is like you are using a driving a bus (with you alone as driver) for commuting to work.

If this is not your intention and you really wish multiple connections, then you should change the mode of one of your routers to PPPoE - any one will do although my own preference is to setup the D-Link (wired) ADSL router to PPPoE mode and leave Netgear in Automatic DHCP (bridge) mode.

Unhappy DLINK GLB502T and Netgear WGT624T

Would anyone have experience with setting up this combination !
I am not a pro at wireless setup but the wizard ( Netgear ) has so far not been able to setup the connection neither has me manually setting up static ips ( as suggested on another posting ) helped me with the setup,

Would anyone be willing to help me out with this one ! I will really appreciate it !

Unhappy Will not work with ADSL connected to the internet port on the Netgear Router

WhiteStar, first of, thank you for taking the time to answer the query !!

I tried unsuccessfully to get the connect to work, with the ADSL plugged in the internet port, with getting the dialup connect to work ( it keeps getting stuck at Wan Miniport PPPoE connect dialup, if I switch the ADSL connect to another wired port on the router, it goes through and works fine.
Wireless connect will not work inspite.

Recap:
Dlink ADSL2 router: bridge mode
Netgear Wireless router set to PPPoE

Help !!!!

i am not an expert on such setups as i don't have a router but i will try to help.if i remember correctly after setting the modem in bridge mode & router in pppoe mode you don't have to use any dialer on computer.also the IP address of both must be on different range like modem--192.168.1.1 & router 192.168.2.1 check that if you can access both modem & router home page from PC.also the thread link which i posted in my previous post go there to solve if there are still problems because that thread was written by just4kix another senior member here who is an expert in such setups.

I do not claim expertise. I learned the hard way and decided to document my experiences.

Here are some tips:

- the principles are always the same; the (setup) screen may be different
- understand the basics first
- using the guides/steps that many others (incl me) have written, apply the principles to your own devices
- and finally, please do a forum search. Perhaps the solution has already been addressed somewhere.

I do receive many private messages asking step-by-step setups for their own modems/routers. I wish to humbly state that it will not be possible for me to address each and every problem, simply because I do not have the devices, manuals and also the time.
