see if you can open these sites by using some proxy sites.if you can then you have to change your dns server addresses.

what mode are you using in your modem---bridge(in which you enter your username/password in windows after turning on modem) or pppoe mode(in which you just have to turn on modem to connect).

that means you are using pppoe mode.open your modem configuration page.it is usually 192.168.1.1.what modem are you using?here are some links for configuration of huwaei modems by bsnl.DataOne User Manual
there should be something similar settings in your modem.usually dns server settings are in ---WAN or pppoe connection settings.

well as whitestar said just change your DNS servers.. go to 192.168.1.1 type admin/admin as your username and password or try admin/password as your username and password.. then you should find a DNS tab in the modem's configuration page.. it typically is under ADVANCED SETTINGS..if not it will be somewhere for sure.. by default the modem usually takes the DNS from the ISP.. so what you can do is change that manually by entering the following 2 ips in the space provided
208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 these are open dns servers which are faster and more secure!!

I have a ADSL 2+ modem( it is connected through USB since i don't have ethernet card). the problem is they didn't give me any user name and password(which the 192.168.1.1 asks). they just gave me some portal id and portal password.

    Under DNS this is there
    "
    DNS Server Configuration

If 'Enable Automatic Assigned DNS' checkbox is selected, this router will accept the first received DNS assignment from one of the PPPoA, PPPoE or MER/DHCP enabled PVC(s) during the connection establishment. If the checkbox is not selected, enter the primary and optional secondary DNS server IP addresses. Click 'Save' button to save the new configuration. You must reboot the router to make the new configuration effective.

    Enable Automatic Assigned DNS

    SAVE"

there is no provision to add the addresses you have given.
But under LAN settings there is
    "
    IP Address:
    Subnet Mask:

    Enable UPnP

    Enable IGMP Snooping
    Standard Mode
    Blocking Mode

    Disable DHCP Server
    Enable DHCP Server
    Start IP Address:
    End IP Address:
    Subnet Mask:
    Leased Time (hour):

    Enable DHCP Server Relay
    DHCP Server IP Address:

Configure the second IP Address and Subnet Mask for LAN interface

    save save/reboot

    Default Thanks

    Thanks guys.
    I am very happy now.
though this problem had bugged me only for 4 days it looked as if it was months.
I know now where to look if i have any problems.
One last thing will this new server slow down my download speed?
