    Question download woes

I have home 900 ul plan. They say the speed is 256kb/s.But i get only max. down speed of 25-30kb/s.Whether it is downloading an individual file or from u torrent[checking that seeds are more than 10 and peers also].Pls tell me how to increase the speed to say 100-150kb/s atleast.

The download speed you are getting is just about right - a tad on the lower side.

Perhaps you are not aware of bits and bytes practice adopted by ISPs.

    - ISPs advertise their speed in kilobits per second and is denoted as kbps (note the lower case 'b')
    - Download speeds are displayed in kilobytes per second and denoted as KBps (note the uppercase 'B')
    - 8 bits = 1 byte

So theoratically, you should get 256/8 kbps or 32 kBps as your maximum speed.

But download speed also depends upon:

    - load on the source server
    - load at the BSNL internet backbone
    - if you are browsing in parallel during downloads
    - number of seeding peers in a torrent and whether ports are forwarded

To get higher speeds, you will have to shift to a high speed plan. May I recommend Home 500 C or Home 500 C+. But be careful not to download heavily during day time.
