Going through the whole thread just seem to notice a post which claims of getting 300KBps speed via his Download manager which turns out to be just not possible as it exceeds the maximum bandwidth allocated by the ISP ..........

so would you please through some light on this ............. i mean why do these download managers show such speeds which exceeds the bandwidth allocated to the user/connection by the ISP.Is display of such kind of speeds just a stunt and has nothing real in it ................

and yeah I'm in full agreement with your explaination about downloading the same thing from various servers thus attaining the maximum bandwidth utilization.

Coming to the point of a download manager i usually download everything via torrents using utorrent.

Yes it's possible, but speed more than the rated maximum bandwidth of ISP will not be consistent, may for a few seconds. I have BSNL UL 750 plan. Maximum rated bandwidth is 256 Kbps but I use to get download between the range 230 to 300 kbps range with IDM and DAP.

The ultimate truth is the equation:

Total Size of the File / Total time taken to download = Speed of download

Never mind what the download manager says.

I'm still using FlashGet v 1.3 (2002!!). It's light, fast, and is able to organize each downladed file to any folder of my choosing. I don't see any reason to upgrade as I've had no problems regarding traffic or security. So for me, as in the past years, I reckon FlashGet v 1.3 will still be doing the job just fine for some time to come.
By the way, I use Shareaza to download torrents and other stuff that Fashget does not cover.

IDM offers 16 simulataneous connections per file.
Although not a download manager, I use skipscreen addon too for downloading from free file sharing hosts.
I also use mediafire downloader to rest in peace while all the links are downloaded one after another. It basically lets use external downloaders like IDM to do the downloading stuff while it just gets the links and manages them one by one.
