The ultimate truth is the equation:
Total Size of the File / Total time taken to download = Speed of download
Never mind what the download manager says.

I'm still using FlashGet v 1.3 (2002!!). It's light, fast, and is able to organize each downladed file to any folder of my choosing. I don't see any reason to upgrade as I've had no problems regarding traffic or security. So for me, as in the past years, I reckon FlashGet v 1.3 will still be doing the job just fine for some time to come.
By the way, I use Shareaza to download torrents and other stuff that Fashget does not cover.
uTorrent- light, fast and small.

for http i use no manager....'
for torrents utorrent is the best!![]()
i too dont use any manager for my http downloads , use utorrent for torrents in windows and deluge in ubuntu
I use Orbit Downloader for files above 10- 15 MB size and uTorrent for downloading torrents.
Just try IDM. FDM is not bad. But IDM is much better.
IDM offers 16 simulataneous connections per file.
Although not a download manager, I use skipscreen addon too for downloading from free file sharing hosts.
I also use mediafire downloader to rest in peace while all the links are downloaded one after another. It basically lets use external downloaders like IDM to do the downloading stuff while it just gets the links and manages them one by one.

IDM of course without a hitch. If you have a rapidshare account then voila!! IDM rocks. It captures youtube videos with ease also.
i hav IDM cracked version
it have a plus facility that it can download any type of file which the browser does not allow to download
videos from youtube, googlevideo, orkut are easily downloaded
it also download songs from music.pz10.com
I am using FDM sice 3 yrs without any problem.
But I see majority of votes are going to IDM.Now I am going to try it.
Can anybody explain me how IDM is better tha FDM ??
I was using dap from many years,i didn't heard of IDM but when i downloaded it ,it works very well. really IDM rocks.![]()
I downloaded IDM and downloaded some files. It is really fastest download manager because of dynamic segmentation(read more about this...).
But I have one prob. I tried to download 2 GB Ultimate Edition 2.2 .But I could not.Because the IDM reported less than 2 GB space in C: drive. I tried to store the file in D: drive(5 GB free space) but again a message popped up saying not enough space in C:drive to store parts of file. This means that IDM first downloads file in parts somewhere on disk. Then it joins them.

@Power Downloader
Open IDM. Go to "Downloads" Menu-> Options -> "Save to" Tab
You will find two different options for changing download location here.
1) Default Download Location. This is the locations where you want to save your files. You can change it here or laer when you wish to download something.
2) Temporary Directory. You need to change this to a Drive where you have enough space. This is where IDM stores the file parts you are talking about.

Change this to D: (or any drive with enough space)
Your Problem will be solved.
Thanks.![]()
First preference BitCommet
Second Firefox extention
Third DAP+
I swear with wget and aria2c on Linux .![]()
Thanks saurav and puchu.Problem Solved.
I don't like the technique of first downloading a file in parts and then joining them.Suppose while joining 4 GB file my computer restarts, then the whole file is gone. Can I change this behaviour ?.
I have one more question . How can I download same file from multiple sources at the same time using IDM ? . I can do that easily in Free Down. Manager . If IDM can do this I will permanently switch to it.

I use IDM (Cracked Verson) and I am happy with it.
I am using Free Download Manager for Last one year.I tried DAP.But I found FDM is better than DAP.It can also download torrents now.But I prefer utorrent for torrents.
I used FDM recently. In FDM if we set a default download location, it saves all files to the same folder. It do not ask. In case of IDM, it will ask for confirmation for each file. We can change them if we wish.
FDM is best freeware Download Manager...
IDM is best pirated Download Manager...![]()
Use Flashget/Flashgot combo...it is the best if you are using firefox.
