Default Which download manager to use?

I have been using the free download manager for all my download related matters and found it good but wanted to know whether there is any other better or any download manager which makes the downloading faster and better and can even download torrents, etc.?!

i don't understand the use of these download managers claiming that they increase the download speed by breaking the download into many connections. What will happen is that the individual parts will be downloaded at a lower speed, all the individual speeds added up to be your internet plan speed... IMO for pausing and resuming ff's default manager is enough.

Not true at all. Have you heard of parallel multi-threading. This is exactly what download managers do.

Your ISP may be allowing 2 mbps (256 KB/s) but the source server could be far off and busier than usual resulting in a serial speed of 60 KB/s. By opening multiple connections @ 60 KB/s, the download manager optimizes the connection and downloads the file faster. I have seen this happening.

Not all video sites. But as a plain Download Manager its the best there is.
    I have tried.
    Orbit Downloader
    Gozilla
    (old version),
    Download Accelerator Plus
    (free version),
    Free Download Manager
    Flash get

And Orbit Downloader is the best.

    Hi all,

I totally agree on the what StarryKnight mentioned above.

At the same time, I disagree on the following too.

Technically no one can pull the extra bandwidth from the ISP.

    Kind regards,
    Pothi Kalimuthu.

I never indicated that you will get more speed than allowed by ISP. I said that you will get the most of the bandwidth and speeds may match the actual bandwidth speed.

    Hi,
I'm happy with the firefox and it's downloading features (pause&resume). Never downloaded something huge (I mean in GBs). At the most I've downloaded only Linux distributions. They never took more than an hour for about 700MB of data.
    Thanks and regards,
    Pothi.
