Default Do you know that ISPs technique to overuse?

I heard from one of the technical guy from bsnl itself that there were cases where the bsnl people will slow down the speed and cap it somehow during nighttime especially during nightime free period. this is to avoid over usage of bandwidth, etc. If this is the case, who will ask such atrociousness by the ISPs?

i seriously doubt it.bsnl people are not technically efficient enough to implement this.

Not sure about bsnl whether it is true or not, but i confirmed it with another private isp provider's employee and he indeed confirmed it, i dont want to name which isp as he told me not to tell so!

as expected only private service providers implement these policies due to bandwidth problems.two main reasons why bsnl won't do it is------
1.no financial problems whatsoever regarding bandwidth because of govt funding & favoring rules in area of bandwidth trading.
2.it does not concern itself with the fact that because of some users heavily downloading others may get affected because it does not care about customer.

however a private ISP will surely consider both factors & that's why any such policy will be implemented only by private ISP's.

Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

yep BSNL do cap the speed ive seen it and even asked the BSNL officer who is in good terms with me over a glass of rum. he told me there might be something like that in place. however he did say it could just be caus every body jump on their BSNL and start downloadin stuff at Night free time ,so that also clogs things up.

@whitestar, BSNL may or may not be capping download/upload speeds. But the guys in the exchange are certainly VERY COMPETENT and I can assure you that they are quite capable to put brakes on all speeds.

It is just the guys in the Customer Support who are incompetent.

    Hi,guys
Well one can definitely regulate the amount of usage and the speeds in the network.
I have seen this being done but dont remember exactly how it was done.It was done in my college in which i was in the computer department.A server to use the internet connection was there and there were 4 other departments
.The speeds were regulated using programmable switches for the other departments.
It can be done .But not sure for BSNL cos they i guess have no reason to do so except if BSNL guys are selling lines off the record then they may have an interest in doing so.

@just4kix,when i said bsnl people i mean the bureaucrats not the engineers.after all nothing is done in any govt organization without orders from above.i know it is very easy to cap speeds in a network & you don't have to be a genius to do this.what i meant was bureaucrats don't care about these things.

Point no 2 seems to be the strongest!! atleast for the benefit for all of us. Ha Ha.
But I do see a lowering of speed esp in the Rapidshare route in the free hours.

thats because almost everybody from india downloads from rapidshare in this time & rapidshare does not have unlimited bandwidth.
