    Default BSNL upgrade check list

Hey i am curently using BSNL Home 500 plan. with type I modem.
and i am curently getting 1.49 MB speed. however since i play a lot of games and watch full length DVD qulity movies online . i have run out of 2.5 GB free data transfer limit in 4 days.

i want to upgrade to Home 1800 plan so i can get more speed and more data trans limit. how ever i am confued about this wireless thingie .

in BSNL web page it says i need Type 4 modem which is wireless ???

so does this mean i need to instal a WiFi card in my PCI slot ?

also i have inbuilt LAN card is that enough ?

Can someone give me Check list of things i need to get installed for BSNL Home 1800 . can u please describe how the process of settin up Wifi thingie takes place ,and do i have to do or do BSNL pple do it ?

I will be more then greatefull for all and any replies.

    Thanking You

    Ash

your LAN card is enough.. no need for wifi card.. type 4 modem will also have a LAN port to connect to.. or atleast a USB port..GEtting HOME 1800 is simple.. just go to the nearest customer care center and give some letter saying you want an upgrade.. it should be done in a few days.. wifi settings are easy.. just login to your router and you will see a WIRELESS tab.. just click on it.. and enter a network name and a password(WEP)

speeds are same for home 500 & home 1800(i.e.upto 2mbps)& if you are such a heavy user even home 1800 limit won't be enough for you.my suggestion is use the free time slot of 2-8AM to download movies instead of watching them online in day.that way you can watch the movies in daytime without using your limits.

Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

Home 500 give 256 to 2MBPS speed. i need 1800 Home for 10GB data trans and the speed is better between 512 to 2MBPS. I need fast stable speed which would give me a ping 200 or less even on USA game servers.

    any suggesations ?

in busy times i.e. in morning & noon when offices are open i doubt you are going to get ping 200 or less.still i may be wrong because my this statement is based on fact that during this time download speed is slower than normal.as for 10GB limit a normal full DVD size is 4.7GB & compressed ones are usually 700MB so if you watch movies during day time even 10GB limit is not safe for you.

Ok but even at 3 am in night time my Ping has been upwarrds from 200 to almost 350 which sucks.

what do u guys think about multiple internet connections ? would that help ?

i got a Reliance wireless data USB thing. that gives me stable connection with ok speed. but whenever i try to run it while my BSNL is connected . it ggets connected for 30 seconds after which it gets disconnected. what am i doing wrong here ? i thought Win XP pro supported multiple internet connections ,i think it is called network bridging or something ? and if yes would it help me improve the ping ???

@ashintray, whitestar is quite correct when he says that even a 10 GB limit is not enough for you.

Whitestar is not suggesting you to play games during 2 AM to 8 AM. He is suggesting downloading movies during that time. During this time, pings of 300 ms or 700 ms will hardly matter.

It is of course your money and entirely your choice but I find that you are spending ridiculous amount of money to watch on-line movies. And if you are watching genuine movies you must be paying a subscription as well. If you are not watching genuine, are you getting true DVD quality?

    Buy original DVDs instead.

As to answer to your second question, multiple internet connections will be possible if you have two network adapters/cards - two LAN cards or one LAN and one Wi-Fi, etc.

So, I go back to my main point. Why not buy original DVDs instead? You will not only get the full content to watch at leisure plus menus/chapters, bonus material, deleted scenes, etc., etc. With plan 1800, you have 10 GB of usage limit and that equals 2 DVDs (@ 4.7 GB). Actually genuine DVDs are dual layer and 9.4 GB out of which at least 7 GB will be movie content. For plan 1800 you will pay, Rs. 1800 + Rs 227 (taxes); you will be able to buy 3 (English) DVDs in that amount - and these will be yours forever. And I am not even considering the subscription charges.

No. Latency and speed is entirely up to the ISP, network traffic, shared bandwidth, etc. Having twin connections is not going to double your speed - both connections will work at their own speed. You can multi-task, that's all.
