    Default Internet is discontinuous

    Friends,

    I have a set up like this.

    Main line -->Splitter -->Modem (other line from the splitter goes to phone)---------->VOIP Adapter

    Modem is of UT300R2U make.
    VOIP adapter is Linksys SPA-2102.

    I have made a PPPOE connection in the modem settings and it is working fine. Whenever I restart my modem it is automatically getting connected to the internet.

    I have set up a PPPOE connection. When I switch on the modem in the morning, the connection is alive. I am able to make calls from my VOIP Phone. After some time (approx 1 hr), the connection is going down ie: internet is not working. When I restart the modem, it is working again. Is it because my connection is idle for a long time, the connection is dying out? My voip phone will be idle most of the times, but I should make sure that it is up to receive calls. If the service gets disconnected after some idle time, then is there any way to modify the settings. If this is not the problem, please let me know the possible solutions.

    Thanks,

    Please check if you have accidently set the ADSL to disconnect after some idle time.

    - Login to UT-300R2U
    - Advanced --> PPP
    - See whether it is set to timeout. If yes, click the other 'radio button' option for keeping connection alive.

    mm.. i also faced the same problem when i was in starting point.. it should be due to..
    >Modem settings.. like above just4kix statement
    >Ur ph line might be looped.. (i dont know wat is looping)
    >Might be somw problem with ur local exchange..

    Wait for couple of days.. if u still facing the problem.. ask ur local operator to change ur modem... then try it again...

    yea.. either that "idle timeout thingy" or if that doesnt work.. maybe your telephone network setup..see this Prashanth Speaks-Technology and Life: Frequent Disconnection in DSL connection
