that's what i am talking about.my modem has all modes including ADSL2 & ADSL2+ but the point is that if i change the mode to ADSL2 & restart the modem to apply changes the settings change back to previous ones.my modem's operation mode is set to G.DMT & it seems that i can not change it.even if your modem is set to ADSL2 if the line speeds in your area are not increased then it will be of no help.

Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
& also ADSL (G.DMT) max downstream rate is 12mbps & upstream rate 1.3mbps.
Quote:
In telecommunications, ITU G.992.1 (better known as G.DMT) is an ITU standard for ADSL using discrete multitone modulation. G.DMT full-rate ADSL expands the usable bandwidth of existing copper telephone lines, delivering high-speed data communications at rates up to 12 Mbit/s downstream and 1.3 Mbit/s upstream.
so what this means is that for those modems which support such high speeds the speed increase will be possible when the speeds at local exchange are increased & when modem syncs with the exchange its line rates will automatically increase.in ADSL speed does not depend on modem if your modem supports high speeds.it all depends on local exchange.whenever they increase speeds modem's line rate will automatically change when it syncs with exchange.

surely you are not getting 9122kbps download speed & 768kbps upload speed.this only means that your modem can provide these speeds with the existing connection but unless bsnl increases speeds at your local exchange you won't get these speeds.it has been reported by many that new users who just got connection are getting more speeds(like some home 900 getting 512kbps-1mbps) & the possible reason may be that these users are connected to newer machines at the exchange which are configured with higher speeds.

Default See modem mannuel

if u r using huawei suplied bsnl modems...then refer ur modem mannual and u wiil c

MT882 Features:

Data rates up to 24 Mbps for downstream and 1.2 Mbps for
upstream

this means the modem which i got from bsnl before 3 years itself had adsl2+ in it
its only a matter of time before bsnl upgrades ur local exchange....

and dont worry about internal bsnl trunk connections---as far as i know their fibre optic core routers can route at over 25GBPS.......its only ur local exchange config that matters

the rate at which our modems syncs with local exchange does not have anything to do with fibre optic core routers of bsnl.these routers are used to carry traffic on NIB & they don't directly interact with your modem ever.what matters is how the speeds are configured at local exchange which in turn also determines the sync rate of modem with local exchange.

well thats what i meant....that ur local exchange must connect u to ur home with newer machinery in the ADSL space and internally bsnl trunks r fibre optic....so its ur local exchange that tells wat speed u must hav...

i am just hoping that they increase the speeds because my city is a small city & upgradation work usually begins at metros/big cities.

HI Whitestar_999
Maximum I have got (Surat city,Gujarat ) is 1800 kbps.
I hope they start upgrading the local exchanges for faster speeds.

upgradation i mentioned was for IPTV for which line speeds must be 8mbps.in kolkata line speeds are already increased to 8mbps & some users get their download speeds as 8mbps in speedtest results but the actual download speeds is still capped by bsnl around 2mbps.

I also occasionally get speeds 5-12Mbps(for the past 2 weeks). it stays until i disconnect. but hard luck every time(4 or 5 times) i get it there is a current cut within 5-10min. once i got 5Mbps for an hour. but i don't care much. my problem is most of the time( for past 2 weeks) i am not even getting above 350Kbps. At night time i get only 150-250Kbps.
i live in chrompet (chennai).
