    Lightbulb BSNL 8mbps? or higher?

hey , our exchange guys (in kerala) recently called us an told to bring our modems so as to hav a firmwire 'rewrite' on feb-08..they said they r testing some new equipment---

i am not to start ny rumers floating.....but i will give you some facts- rather snapshots of what happened after --- but of course the speed lasts only for a few seconds and after that they 'LIMIT MY SPEED ' to 256KBPS....which may pretty much means that there is something going on under the hood-------atleast now we can believe that BSNL really is upto something....

and i too dont know but to believe my eyes!!!!!!!!this too in a home connecion 500 combo plan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well there are already rumours of bsnl increasing speeds upto 8mbps in limited plans & 2mbps in unlimited plans from april.since you mentioned about testing & firmware rewrite they may be testing this speed upgrade but this also means that it will take time as you are the first person here who posted such screenshot.

Arrey yaar, when you start downloading a file its common to see a boost in speed spike, use a download manager and the speed average in the manager is the actual speed,I'll be glad if you get more speed ,but be sure first, then post.

Default ADSL tech.......and the meaning of speed spikes!!

WELL the picture shows 8mbps downloads ic.....
WELL IF U GOT THIS even if u just got it for a few seconds, and if u r getting this speed for most downloads for the first seconds----then undoubtedly this means your line can support 8MBPS!!!!!!! if u know how adsl works...you will get the point........no questions what so ever---he hav given good proof that his line supports upto 8mbps----we here havn't even seen beyond 220KBPS here...and 930KBPS means 8mbps!!!!! and see the reading bsnl gave him from bsnl's own speed tester i dont think it gave me a reading above 1.6mbps how so ever the number of times i tried----so no doubts the line of his can 'SUPPORT' 8mbps.thats great news!!!!!!

Well then check this image.Guess which one is the actual speed, and no one of th speeds in the picture is fake.I got these speeds within 1 hr.
But I don't get more than 2.5-3.0 mbps.

    What do you think ?

the main point here is that even if for a minute you get 8mbps speed then it means the line in your area can support 8mbps.in many areas including myself we have never seen speeds above 2mbps for even 10 sec consistently & 8mbps not even for 1 second so that means lines in our area can not support such speeds.for bsnl to provide 8mbps it must upgrade the line speed first & that is being done at some places the proof of which is some users getting 8mbps speed results in speedtest, getting 8mbps download speed consistently for few sec or more(like the first post here).

actually its kerala....but not to worry----BSNL wont hav a regional upgrade---and as i am getting the feed backs many BSNL new portal users r getting higher speeds across the country---and a metropolis like chennai must be on their first choice.

i am just curious about one thing.those who are posting such greater than 2mbps speed results are they using bsnl provided modems or market purchased ones.seeking which modem are you using.

what is your upstream/downstream line rate?because here it is 2048kbps & 512kbps so i am guessing that either line speeds are not upgraded in my area or the modems have to be reconfigured by bsnl to get higher speeds(as one user here said that after rewriting his firmware at bsnl exchange when called with his modem he started getting speeds sometimes upto 8mbps like all others in his area).
