1.Have you ever seen what's in the properties of the your BSNL dialer in network connections folder in control panel ? Take a good look at it , you can automate the connection by unchecking the option in the dialer which says "prompt for user name and password".

2.Use your BIOS RTC alarm to start your PC automatically ,when its off(of couse power supply should be there).In that way you'll not have to wake up every time at 2:00.

3.Use a good scheduled download manager like "Internet download manager" to schedule your downloads.

4.Always keep your PC time synchronized with a good time server(manually or automatically),check the sync with BSNL usage check.

5.Use a good tool (I use "power shutdown") to disconnect modem or shutdown PC or reboot at a specific time.

6.Most important of all play around with your PC know it better, take your time,its yours after all.

7.There are all kinds of tools on the net which are free and can do wonders ,only you need is to find the right tool for you.

8.You can automate your PC upto such extent that even if you are away from it for a few days,then also it can start,download and shutdown at your specified time.

9.So don't waste your time reading this, go and play with your PC.A liitle bit of brain can save you nights of sleep.

That's helpful. Is it also possible to schedule torrent downloads to start and stop at a certain time .. well one can just shut down the computer but what about starting torrent downloads at a particular time?

Like you've mentioned ..I'm looking around but no luck so far..

in utorrent there is something called as scheduling..OPTIONS->PREFERENCES->SCHEDULER .. just schedule it to download/upload within a certain time.. so you can leave utorrent on always.. but it will only download during the scheduled time

Thanks Superprash ...! Got some other good leads here regarding schedulers. Am planning on utorrent now...

Since I've finally got my landline and ringtone .. it's time to apply for the broadband connection. Q is whether to go for the downright purchase of the type 1 modem or for a rental?
Read somewhere that its probably a good idea to go for rental initially.. figure out settings etc. Also BSNL will provide support in case of rentals .. am assuming that you're on your own once the warranty of one year runs out in cases of purchase.
Any suggestions?

2.Schedule it in windows scheduler to run at 2:10 or so,go to advanced options and set some other settings as you need.

3.Remember to schedule both in utorrent and windows scheduler.

but are you saying that i will get a huge bill for what ever i had done ( by starting at 2.05 and closing at 7.57 ) till now , god iam very afraid now , pls comment on this

but i cant check my account usage , whenever i log into the portal , i can view
"my profile - chang password log out" but not my usage -- it always say internal error try again so how can i possibly check my account usage

@bhaskar,did you get your portal ID by bsnl people or by registering on bsnl website?many people made this mistake of getting a portal ID by registering on bsnl site.that portal ID will not show your usage.only the portal ID provided by bsnl people(usually local exchange) can be used to check your usage.

above whitestar comment is correct.. ur portal id should be like.. first 3 char are alpha... remaining 11 chars are numeric... let me know whethr u r using portal id... (hey dont post ur portal id here... if u do.. any1 can hack urs).
i dont think u will get a huge bill.. first try to check ur usage in bbservice.. and let me know.. before that.. play safe..

Portal id= 1st 3 letters of your name + three digits(I don't know about it) + ddmmyyyy(date of your activation)

If you can send me a private message with your name and portal id and date of activation(can be the day you started using the net or the day your user id and password was given to you.),I might get your id,don't assure your,only can try.

I don't have any reason hacking your account.Its upto you.

hi arun , yes iam using portal id of 3 alphabets & remaining numbers which i got from registering online but not from bsnl office , so i try to get the id & check and let you know . i really hope i dont get any extra bill . thanks , bye for now

that id wont work.. get it from ur xchange... it should be like

first 3 char from the name of connection say bha + 3numeric(i dont know about this) + date of ur connection.. say 01-Mar-2008

so its something like bha12301032008
