Default I am confused Please guide me

hey I need you help, I saw lot's of thread about extra chargineg from BSNL... I am now confused and I am in a fear that BSNL will charge me extra for downloading between Happy hours..

    What I do in night:
-I hibernate my computer at night and leave my modem ON (with disconnected connection)
-I have software called Auto power and shutdown which switch on my system at 2.15 am
-It connects the computer via rasdial at 2.18 am and starts utorrent at 2.20 am
-It also disconnects the connection at 7.45 am and also hibernates the computer.

Now, I read that if you keep your modem on before 2 am then you must switch off and switch on modem once again else you will be charged.

I don't know type of my connection, but I use username and password to start my internet connection.

Please help me, shall I be charged my bsnl...I am damn confused at this moment.

rebooting the modem at or before 2AM is necessary only for those users who are using modem in pppoe mode in which your bsnl username/password is stored in modem & modem makes the connection as soon as modem is turned on so if your modem is on before 2AM & you don't reboot even if your computer is off/hibernated there is a risk of billing in happy hours because modem is connected to bsnl even if the computer is off/hibernated.

you are using bridge mode in which you have to enter your bsnl username/password to connect to net after you turned on the modem so there is no risk in keeping on the modem because even if your modem is on before 2AM you are not connected to bsnl which is not the case in pppoe mode.

so what you are doing is right.also regularly check your usage at bsnl portal to be sure your download time shown is after 2AM.

Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

Can you give me good portal for checking usage in which I can see total chargable downloads (excluding night downloads). My ip starts from 117.XXX

for new customers(having IP 117.XXX) go to this link--
    BSNL - Broadband Account Management

you will need a 14characters portal ID (different from bsnl username to connect to net) which will be given to you by bsnl only(do not get it by registering on bsnl site).currently portal will not show night free downloads separately.you can use this firefox script though---

This script is only for new DataOne users with the 117.xx.xx.xx IP range who use the new portal.

    BSNL DataOne Bandwidth Calculator v2 – Userscripts.org
(open the link and click "Install This Script" on the top right area of the page, i.e. if GreaseMonkey is already installed.)

    For users new to GreaseMonkey
This is an extension for FireFox which lets users add their own scripts to webpages. These scripts are not uploaded but are stored on the computer and are applied whenever the webpages supplied in the script are loaded. Extremely handy and light extension.

Other computer resident bandwidth monitors like DU Meter are cool, but I prefer to use official BSNL records .

    Enjoy

yes you are going to get charged for the time before 2 am..
like say you are connected from 1 am...and after 2 am you start download
till 8am you download 6gb(assume it). then the calculations go like this
1am-8am are 7hr....then 6/7=0.857...that means on an average 857mb per hour...
means from 1am-2am 857mb gb is counted to your account...and other 6 hours download becomes free....htis system is weird but i guess this is what they do....
please disconnect and reconnect after 2am....
