Hey guys this question might seem to be silly but hey as you know answers to big things are hidden in small ones.
Please tell me how to setup the broadband connection on windows xp and ubuntu 7.Please tell me in detail right from setting up modem[smartx mt882].Also tell me some tweaks and something that will give me good speed. I have home ul900 plan.

ask superprash2003,i think he uses ubuntu.

yea i do.. but i use ppoe mode.. i think its way easier to use ppoe mode in ubuntu than dialing..but if you still insist on dialing in ubuntu go to ubuntu terminal(Applications->Terminal) and type sudo pppoeconf and follow instructions .. make sure u choose the correct ethernet card.. if u have only 1 LAN card then it will be eth0

For setting up your modem in windows xp, you dont have to do anything special if you connect through LAN. If you connect your modem to your pc regularly using your lan cord, you will be connected if you are in always on mode though.
