Lightbulb Connecting in Linux

Please tell me how to setup an internet connection in linux distros like Ubuntu or Open Suse 10 or Fedora.Please tell me in detail here only and please dont give some link to other forums or blogs.It would be kind to give step by step info.

if you are using ppoe mode there's not much you need to do.. just make sure dhcp is enabled in your modem/router.. and go to the network settings and set it to automatic assign ip..i can give you better instructions if you specify the OS and explain your setup more clearly

I use ubuntu 7 i had done exactly as u said but i was not ablw to connect.I typed sudo pppoeconf in a terminal but it was not able to detect the modem[huwai mt882].Then how can i setup that?

it wont detect your modem.. it will detect your ethernet card.. like eth0 or eth1 ... can you please post screenshots?
