    5. Go to 192.168.1.1
    6. Login with username and password “admin”.
    7. Advanced Setup -> WAN
    8. Edit your connection and the follow th steps of Method II

    and next

logged in to router and made the changes as

    2. Click on Advanced Options in the sidebar and press the edit button for your connection. Most probably the first one in the table.

    3. Click next for the ATM PVC Configuration.

    5. Check Enable Bridge Service: (If unchecked) and press next.
    6. Click on Save. Press Save/Reboot. Wait for a minute and connect again.

ok.. go to control panel - then go to network connections.. right click on LOCAL AREA CONNECTION and click on properites.. then go to tcp/ip properties.. then select manually assign ip.. and enter ip as 192.168.1.3 and enter gateway as 192.168.1.1 ... that should work

    I have the same problem.
yesterday after reading the guide i did exatly what the guide said.
now i cannot open modem settings through 192.168.1.1.
i checked ipconfig it gave bizzare results as
ip address fe80::5545:5245 and so on like some cd key
my modem is connected through USB so initially i don't need to enter username password. now as i have changed as per the guide i connect through username password. but the thing is i get two connections now.
1.one is the local area connection( before changing i had this connection ). this one comes as soon as i switch on the modem. but it shows limited or no connectivity
2.the other connection( new connection as per the guide ) comes when i click connect. i can access the net through this connection. but as phoenix87 says i think it is unstable because it connects and disconnects frequently. but right now i am using it. hopefully it didn't occur now.
    MY questions
1.will this be a major problem or can i continue with it.
2.does this pose a security threat(as it has some bizzare ip address).
3.Do i need to change back. if so what should i do to restore(as i cannot open modem settings)
    4. why do i have this problem while others in that guide says it is very relaiable and secure than DMZ host(method 1). is it because i have modem connected through USB.

thanks guys for reading this long post. hope U could solve it.

actually i am now able to connect fine. can i keep this connection till this gives some other problem.
another option- i have read your blog on how to restore the modem to factory settings (through small hole in modem). since i have done many modifications after reading many posts( portforwarding, server changing, etc.) will it be a better option. also nowadays i am getting bandwidth200-350mbps only. usually before these modifications i used to get 1.5-2.5mbps( bsnl speed test). is this decrease due to my modifications?
    thanks in advance.

yes i guess you could do the resetting.. if you are sure on how to set it up again.. please tell me your objectives on what you want to do with your setup.. you can accordingly change your settings in the modem..also tell us which modem you use!!..
Thanks for the feedback on the blog..

i don't know how to setup.
    i use UT300R2U adsl 2+ modem(500c plan)
I just thought if i press it the settings will go back to what they initially gave me.
now i remember i have a backup file saved before a week. the question is whether i would be able to access the modem settings through 192.168.1.1(which presently i am not able to do) once i reset it.
    MY Objectives
    1.to be able to portforward.
2.to get good download speed in torrents (atleast 100kb/s). even after port forwarding i get only 30kb/s. question:when i check bsnl speed test bandwidth 250-350kbps( downloaded at 30-40kb/s:will this be the max speed for torrents)

You have said somewhere (I think) that you are connected via USB. I have often found that with USB sometimes http://192.168.1.1 does not work. Try http://192.168.1.2 instead.

Your problem may probably be because DHCP is not enabled. If this is the case then you must enable DHCP.

You can do a full RESET of the modem and reconfigure it yourself. The step by step guides are available. There are two sticky posts in this (BSNL) forum that contain guides which allow to configure and set up UT-300R2U in two ways:

    1. Bridge mode with a manual dialer: http://www.indiabroadband.net/bsnl-b...er-wrt54g.html (Setup of ADSL Modem/Router UT-300R2U with Linksys Wireless Router WRT54G)

    2. PPPoE mode (always on/no dialer required): http://www.indiabroadband.net/bsnl-b...onnection.html (Solution for multiple machines connecting to same BB connection)

p/s In the above guides, ignore the Linksys portion as that is not applicable to you.

i followed your thread 6 and am able to access modem. Thanks very much superprash.
If you can could you please reply to these questions
if my bandwidth is 320Kbps then will my max download speed be only 40KB/s (as 320/8=40) ?

will my utorrent max download speed also be only 40KB/s?

because it were these questions which prompted me to make so many modifications. now i have understood not to make any changes before refering it to experts even though they might sound silly.

    not only your utorrent

your max download speed will be utorrent+websites opening+downloading files+watching video online = 40 KBps

you will not get any more bandwidth more than 40 KBps under normal condition

that is unless the ISP increase the bandwidth to higher one
