i can mange bout 45-50 GB of torrent download with ul750
Tho iam starting to get 256KBps for last 2 days lol, have already downloaded 5 gigs
whitestar: i didnt know that IIT has 32mbps bandwidths :O, u gave me just one more reason to determine myself for IIT

@piratemaster: Connection usually dies out with torrents due to lots of traffic. Now i believe its the router which dies and not the connection but iam not sure tho.
Btw, u dont have to wake up at 2am to start downloads. Use scheduled tasks to open the torrent client at 2am (make sure u stop the torrents u dont wanna download). Also, i use "TST10" in which u create scripts that are executed on telnet to reboot router (or do other commands). Then u just schedule the task with windows scheduled tasks. I reboot my router every half an hour xD

@procrush,now IIT's are too imposing restrictions on net so i am not sure if one will be able to achieve the speeds i got.also not all IIT's have same connection.the fastest connection is in IIT ROORKEE from where i did my B.Tech as far as i know but speeds are gradually dropping because IIT-R has started giving net connection at rooms using wifi.in all other older IIT's this facility is already available & that's why the slow speeds.imagine 300-400 students sharing a 34mbps connection at same time.in my time at IIT-R net at rooms is limited to a select few hostels only & that too was just the beginning so not many used net at that time.now almost everyone who has a computer has bought a wifi card so it's more crowded but still you should be able to get at least 4mbps on normal days.i achieved speeds upto 3000KBps using megamanager & a megaupload premium account to download from megaupload mainly anime series.

i think u mean 1100 kbps which is 137kBps , and (1800kbps/8)= 225 kBps speed of a torrent depends upon seeder leecher ratio, , higher the ratio higher would be would be ur speed ,

portal shows total usage meaning upload+download so it's possible that your total is this much.as for only download with 256kbps speed one can download 2.64GB at full speed(256kbps or 32KBps).so in 1 month 79GB exactly can be downloaded if you get full 256kbps 24 hrs a day but i seriously doubt it.

How do u guys keep up. How do u download in the early morning. Do everyone wake up @2 am.

Another problem is that my whole internet connection stops after an hour of downloading. After that i.ve to Restart my Modem to continue.

So these are the main problems.

    @whitestar_999

Hey man what stuff are u downloading...

    Hi,
please answer this question. I am also feel very lazyness in the morning time as i have to wake up till 2 and most of the time power cuts at 2 and then i wait for 30 -35 min for power and if still power does not come then i wake up at 4 to start up my pc and put up all the torrents for download and this takes on an average 4:45 and then i manage to sleep. So as you can see i have not taken a god sleep from the very first day i started BSNL Home 500C+. So pleas give your advice.

    Thankx

for power cuts nothing can be done.i am too in a very similar situation like yours.just go to sleep at 10PM or even before.set alarm to the time light comes & bu judging your situation set alarm at 4AM.open the computer & start download then go to sleep again.losing 2 hours is not such a big deal if you get to sleep 6 hrs from 10-4.

I have home 500 plan and I downloaded 150Gs in one month which is maximum. You can never download that much or more than that with home 500 plan.So definitely detone is using some business plan or more than one net connection.

And what does privacy has to do with detone's download amount ?

As far as movies are concerned ,everybody downloads them.
    Softwares too.
And if you say there's nothing more to download then think again.Have you downloaded NASA worldwind cache files-33GB=46 files. If you have that much of bandwidth you should download that NASA worldwind.
How much have you downloaded from rapidshare ?
    How much from softpedia ?

NASA worldwind is a program that lets you see satellite photos of earth ,moon and many more just like Google earth but with lesser detail and resolution and also change in weather sort of things. You may say little brother of G-earth.It also uses a program called NASA worldwind just like Google earth and connects to internet to show you the photos. Some of the cache files of NASA worldwind can be downloaded and stored in your PC to see them locally without net connection.
Search for NASA worldwind (14 mb)and worldwind data (cache-33GB-46 files), on the internet ,you'll get it.But the problem is the data cache server is not always available .It took me 7days to download 42 files and 45 days to download rest 4 files. Both torrent and http downloads are available for that.

my normal usage is about 40GB per month.... and there was a time when i use to download only 1GB in whole month...
and before that during dialup days (2001-02)my usage was limited to 150-200 MB per month

I know 33GB is not a big thing, but 33GB -46 files is a big thing .Collecting all 46 files is a tricky job, you may not be able to get all the files from http and torrents both.Download is not always about speed, its also about availability.

One thing I don't understand, earlier you said that you downloaded 500+Gs in a month and now you are saying slow connection!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

in my opinion downloading blue ray movies are not worth it unless you have a 1 lakh or above FULL HD LCD/PLASMA TV along with a good(read 22000 or above)5.1 speaker system.

Correct in essentials. But you could always start collecting now and go for the good hardware later.

But one thing that beats me about downloading BD stuff - how are you going to store 16 GB per movie and how many?

And what are the playback options?
    - you can burn them to blu-ray discs in which case you will need BD burner, discs and a BD player: all very expensive at the moment
    - your PC must have the capability of outputing digital output to give the signal to a 7.1 ch receiver.

So whitestar_999, you are right in a manner - you can download them but you will not be able to enjoy them to the maximum extent.

The day movies will stop being made, softwares will stop being updated and games will be banned, that day somebody will support you .
And BTW download amount is strictly dependent on the taste of the person.I can make 400-500MB per day only by surfing the net without downloading any software or movie or youtube. And I have been using net for last 7 years and have my personal connection for last 3 years, but today also I find internet as interesting ,fascinating and amazing as the first day I used internet.I never get bored of my PC and the internet, everyday I get something to download no matter how small or how large it is.I don't believe anybody who is curious to know more ,to see more ,will ever get bored of downloading or surfing like me .My PC stays online 24 x 7 -365 days unless any failure stops it.Now you may say I am a newbie, doesn't matter.

According to this poll on top of this page 17.79% people download more than 100 GB.

I had said this earlier - this has become a kind of slugfest on who is downloading how much.

Someone said, I download 'X' gb, then someone challenges - not possible; this must be the amount that you have downloaded until now!!

Carry on guys. This is becoming very entertaining.

It is a ftp site which has tons of linux repositories starting from Fedora Ubuntu and many more,it also has a webcam part which shows live pictures of some of the famous places.
But the best part is linux though, one stop ftp download for almost all free linux versions, search through the FTP links on the site and you'd find linux dvds, plugins ,tools, drivers etc.

For example-ftp://mirror.switch.ch/mirror/fedora/linux/releases/ is a Fedora 7,8,9 ftp part.

I believe BSNL has clipped upload speeds down ,I am also getting no more than 20kBps at full BW utilization.

If you cross your download/upload limit then obviously you will be charged!! unless you are on a unlimited plan

Ive got a 256kbps sify connection with night time speed of 512kbps.

I dont even use my connection to download backups of websites anymore and just keep them on another server just coz this speed sucks.

Life would be so much more easier in India if we had 8-10mbps connections at an affordable price.
