    very few areas have EVDO service right now & bsnl will most likely either increase the price or place data transfer limits once it is launched officially because if you can get 1mbps(avg speeds reported in EVDO enabled areas)unlimited for Rs.550 who will take the BSNL broadband connections.

    EVDO is CDMA based wireless network currently provided for only internet, from BSNL.
    Costs Around 4700/- including 1 month advance and activation charges,
    gets activated in 2-3 hrs,
    monthly= 550+taxes.
    speed = 2.4mbps(actual speed differs according to signal strength,check local exchange.)
    no download limit as your 750 plan

    EVDO is to CDMA what 3G is to gsm networks, currently bsnl is testing evdo in many circles in India, so if it is available in ur area u will get a speed upto 2.4 mbps and if it is not then u will get a speed 144kbps.

    a little correction i would like to add regarding EVDO is that though it supports speeds upto 2.4mbps in reality you will get avg speeds around 1-1.2mbps as reported by users who are actually using it.

    Thats what I said before.
    I have used it and found out that if you are lucky you'll get 200kBps(may be more) or if you are not,you'll get no more than 15-30kBps.

    you mean to say that you got 200KBps consistently for,say,20-30 minutes because 1 user who has EVDO connection told me that though speed jumps to 200KBps for a few seconds the avg speed will be around 1mbps(100-120KBps) & as for 15-30KBps speeds these speeds you will get when there is no EVDO enabled tower in your area.

    Yes exactly,I don't know what the real deal is with this speed change,but I have experienced these differences in the same place at different times.

    whitestar: i didnt know that IIT has 32mbps bandwidths :O, u gave me just one more reason to determine myself for IIT

    @piratemaster: Connection usually dies out with torrents due to lots of traffic. Now i believe its the router which dies and not the connection but iam not sure tho.
    Btw, u dont have to wake up at 2am to start downloads. Use scheduled tasks to open the torrent client at 2am (make sure u stop the torrents u dont wanna download). Also, i use "TST10" in which u create scripts that are executed on telnet to reboot router (or do other commands). Then u just schedule the task with windows scheduled tasks. I reboot my router every half an hour xD

    @procrush,now IIT's are too imposing restrictions on net so i am not sure if one will be able to achieve the speeds i got.also not all IIT's have same connection.the fastest connection is in IIT ROORKEE from where i did my B.Tech as far as i know but speeds are gradually dropping because IIT-R has started giving net connection at rooms using wifi.in all other older IIT's this facility is already available & that's why the slow speeds.imagine 300-400 students sharing a 34mbps connection at same time.in my time at IIT-R net at rooms is limited to a select few hostels only & that too was just the beginning so not many used net at that time.now almost everyone who has a computer has bought a wifi card so it's more crowded but still you should be able to get at least 4mbps on normal days.i achieved speeds upto 3000KBps using megamanager & a megaupload premium account to download from megaupload mainly anime series.

    i think u mean 1100 kbps which is 137kBps , and (1800kbps/8)= 225 kBps speed of a torrent depends upon seeder leecher ratio, , higher the ratio higher would be would be ur speed ,

    portal shows total usage meaning upload+download so it's possible that your total is this much.as for only download with 256kbps speed one can download 2.64GB at full speed(256kbps or 32KBps).so in 1 month 79GB exactly can be downloaded if you get full 256kbps 24 hrs a day but i seriously doubt it.
