Default problems facing in 500c home combo plan.

Hi, i am using 500 c home combo plan & facing some weird problems.
    1. I got my connection on 18'th march & since then during the night unlimited time(2am-8am)
i am getting a maximum download speed of 10-12 kb/s & sometimes even falls to 3kb/s. Though in
normal hours (8am-2am) i get a download speed of approx 100-130kb/s.
    2. it is also seen that when i am using the free hours,my connection disconnects automatically
after say in 60 minutes or sometimes 90 minutes.

    please help me out.

the slow speed torrents depends on the no of seeds on that specificed torrent.. also make sure your port has been opened properly.. you can verify that using an online port scanner Online Port Scanner | Port Scan | Port Scanning | Portscan Tool

as already stated low seeded torrents can be pathetic.
Try with rapidshare download. Atleast they are more reliable than couple of leechers ,I cant blame the poor seeders they ar trying .

The speed depends on lot of factors, whether you are nearer to your exchange, whether your exchange has huge user base and hence slow speed. Try to open up your torrent using so as it accepts incoming traffic too to see whether speed changes or not.

    http://www.indiabroadband.net/bsnl-b...html#post24170 (BSNL 500 Night Unlimited)

Refer to the my article in the above link about download automation. This might give you some idea about good downloading at night and about auto-reconnection if line is disconnected..

Second problem(disconnection)-If you are using IE,go to tools>internet options>connections>settings>click advanced(beside the password field)

check, if the box says disconnect after 60 or 90 minutes is unchecked or not.

For download speeds use any download manager like DAP or IDM instead of direct download from http.

PM me if any more queries.Happy downloading.

i got my connection on january 16th and i am also having the same problem as rex except that i am getting download speeds of 8-10kbps during the free hours, and around 200kbps during time. my connection also disconnects every 30-60 minutes.

is the done by BSNL on purpose, or can something else be done about it?

Have you read the 7th post on this thread ?
I don't think so ,because if you'd have then you shouldn't be asking again.

    1. schedule your http downloads(normal downloads) with a good download manager like "Internet download manager" to start and stop downloads at specific times, say from 2:10-7:50(for plans with 2-8 free).IDM also improves your download speed to the max of your bandwidth creating multilink connections from download server.

    2. Use utorrent (has inbuilt scheduler) to download torrents,

    3. Schedule in windows scheduler for, utorrent to start at, suppose 2:10

    4. Use some auto-shutdown software like "power shutdown" to restart your pc at 2:00(so that modem automatically gets disconnected at 2:00).
power shutdown can do the following:
    a. disconnect you modem at specific time
    b. reboot your pc at specific time
    c. shutdown your pc at specific time and many more

    5. automate your windows logon so that you should be able to start downloading only by turning on your pc.(use "tweaks ui" its a tool).

    6. sync your pc time with a good time server,or manually with internet time, watch your download details in bbservice.bsnl.in to check if your downloads are at the same time as shown there(indirectly checking that BSNL server is in sync with your PC or not)

    7. use your BIOS RTC alarm(if available in your BIOS),to start your PC from total shutdown state,so that you won't have to wake up to 2:00 to start your PC.

    8. Schedule power shutdown to diconnect your modem at 7:50,your can shedule more than one modem disconnection schedules to stay disconnected as your modem tries to connect automatically, better schedule to shutdown your PC at around 7:50.

9.keep your default BSNL connection at start up sothat it connects automatically when you login.(uncheck the box in your BSNL connection properties which says prompt for password, then it'd automatically connect without confirmation, there is auto redial in Internet download manager.

    So now you have
pc autostart + auto log in + automatic connection to internet + automatic scheduled downloads + autoshutdown = completely automated downloads at night.
only thing you, everything else is automatic.
have to do is queue your downloads in day time and keep your pc power cord plugged in at night

    Happy downloading and happy nights.

If the above didn't help then ask me.I am here always.

thanks for the idea. i have, in fact, read all the posts in this forum. but my question is not about scheduling my downloads for the night. because i dont keep my computer and my internet cable connected all night because the weather conditions can change awfully badly at times, thunder and lightning are frequent here. i was asking if a solution was possible to increase my download speed during the free hours. i do use free download manager for downloads but it is of no use when it comes to downloading from rapidshare.

The reason is rapidshare doesn't support download managers fully.Download managers create multilink connections to server for single file, thats how they provide good speeds, but rapidshare only provides one connection per download per IP at a time for free downloads. So there is no point of speeding. You may buy a premium account for download manger support.
I hope you got the answer.Anything else ?

can u think of any particular reason as to why the speed reduces during this time?

your exchange/ cable / ofc may not be having that much of bandwidth capabilities during happy hrs. Check with other nearby people, get your line verified for good SNR

no, the thing is, upto 7:59 the download speed remains as slow as 10kbps. but exactly at the stroke of 8, my download speed increases to 200kbps. do u think this has got anything to do with my exchange or cable? and what is ofc and SNR?

I guess I am lucky then,I still get 140-180 kBps from rapidshare also, with my home 500 plan. But I must say BSNL has tightened the upper speed limit, because as in past, with IDM i used to get 320-450 but now ,exactly 215-220kBps.
