Rep Power: 0 | have a desktop connected to Dataone Broadband. A few shared systems are also connected to the desktop thru wired ethernet. The lan machines connect to internet thru my desktop via a proxy server software installed many years back.I am planning to buy a laptop with a wireless lan and do away with the present desktop. I have gone thru a few how to's on wireless networking of Broadband. My question is- Is it possible to connect to my lan machines and the internet simultaneously using the single wireless lan ? If so, how. |

| Platinum Member | most probably you are using bridge mode & one computer as gateway which is connected to modem.if you want to connect your laptop to a wireless network you first have to use a wifi adsl modem(type II or IV from bsnl) or add a wifi router to your present setup.if you wish to add a wifi router then just4kix here knows about almost everything regarding such setup.on the other hand if you are going to use a wifi modem then if you know how to configure it then configute it for pppoe mode.enable DHCP in modem, computers & laptop & after that laptop can connect directly using wifi while to connect computers use a hub/switch which will distribute the ethernet connection coming from modem to switch. edit---didn't saw your post.just ignore the bridge mode using part. |
