Well i have used quick heal ...and it many a times does not recognize viruses ......
Hence i has switched to Zone Alarm ...and AVG....the combination works superb ....with a slight load on the machine being imposed..

Try scanning with ZoneAlarm ...and AVG...
Also Quick heals Firewall is i guess not to the mark ....

Well likely that website must be down for maintenance when u must have attempted to login .....cos i dont find any connection with scanning for viruses and reinstallation and then a sit not opening or say not allowing to log in.

Well a question apart from ur question: Do u know how can we improve the resolution of ubuntu 7.04 Fawn Fiesty?I got a Dell 6400 machine without a graphics card installed it has inbuilt 224 shared graphics memory.currently i am using 1024 x 768 but i would like to use more than this if possible....
Got any ideas please guide me.

i am using gutsy gibbon(7.10) i dont know if it works same with yours, go to
    system-->administration-->screens and graphics
there model click the tab beside it, it shows various monitors, u can click detect to auto detect, it will give all available resolutionsfor your monitor.

About bsnl sit, thought may be some add on or some thing like that is required for mozilla firefox to display that page correctly, so asked.

Don't worry ,the login problem is due to the incompatibility of JAVA of the browser you are using with the site.
Most of the sites are built,IE(windows) keeping in mind ,so sometimes JAVA enabled sites become unstable with firefox ,opera etc.
It also might be due to server unavailability due to maintenance.Try accessing at a different time.

If you are using LINUX ignore this article.
    Else proceed.
If you are using firefox ,sometimes firefox becomes unstable and hangs the system,

Have you checked for automatic updates schedules of other programs like adobe, your antivirus, windows update etc, these are the things you should keep in mind,

block any programs like adobe being automatically updated by your firewall,
check if windows update is set to notify, instead of update without confirmation, lokk at my computer>properties>automatic update

also check your antivirus update schedule, change it to notify,or scheduled update(at specific time)for AVG.If using norton, change update plan to notify before update.
Block every other program which is not needed to be connected to internet through your firewall.

Also check for application compatibility of two programs using same resources, like your native power management and some other power managment tool.It is also reason for your PC going slow.Check processor usage of every application in windows task manager, there you can catch the application which is eating up your processor time, try changing the priority of the process if it is not system critical.

I hope this helps, ask if anything else.

I guess there must be a round about for this too .......cos my laptop screen supports a number of resolution types but i get just the standard provided by ubuntu ........I guess if we can get the exact driver for the screen that we have then may be it will be possible for us to get to a more refined resolution....
I have seen resolutions finer than what we are getting but those were on samsung 793s monitors .....i dont know how exactly i need to find the driver and where to replace it ..but googling is going on ..lets see if i can get anything.

Ok ofcourse as it runs fine with 1024 x 768 it does not need any other driver. But if u must have checked the driver that is being used as the display driver is the generic one hence this suggests that the operating system is not able to successfully detect what kind of a display are we using. And that makes me feel that there is no driver in place in the OS.

Well i got some results on the intel site for the display driver for Linux but is also says that our OS must be having it already.

Done a lot of googling but every where i end up with results which only include people asking question about the resolution part ...but no solutions to those questions.......

Sad on linux part. Its a lot disapointing.Anyways lets hope for the best that we may get a driver in place for the display.Lets hope so.

Well i intend to try the beta release of ubuntu lets see what is with it.
    Has anyone tried it?

lotta bugs i heard.. especially with the wifi networking and samba.. i prefer to wait.. always test using vmware and then switch..
abt the resolution.. google your monitor's model on the internet.. and see if your monitor supports higher resolutions.. sometimes that could be the problem

Well i got a dell inspiron 6400 and a monitor SyncMaster793s....which both support large resolutions ......hence thats not a problem....i have even gone to higher resolution with Fedora Core 5 it is superb but i liked the ubuntu concept.
Well wifi works simply fine in my case ....never tried samba.

uninstall it , if you are not doing it, so that it will remove all changes it has made to the iptables

No idea boss even i am stuck with those speeds i even did port forwarding to get it faster ....i got BSNL Home 500 plan but if i start downloads during the normal working hours then i get speeds even exceeding 100kbps but when it comes to night unlimited hours then the speed drops to 23-60kbps .....in windows

And in linux its always in that same range 23-60kbps.....dont know why....
I guess BSNL slows the rates in the night.

It is not that BSNL slows the rate
BSNL says up to 2 Mbps which means it depends upon the load etc. it will provide 256 kbps min but CAN go up to 2 Mbps

If lot of people in the night download (which is normally the case) the bandwidth will be divided among those users so the speed would decrease
