Default configuring type 2 modem simense SL-141 for static ip 59.90.x.x.

i have applied for busniess plan 4000 which have one static ip..
static ip is like 59.90.x.x .
where this ip is to configued on modem itself or on the server connectiong the netcard to ethernet port of router.
as for as some earlier discussion with forum users i may say that static is to be configued on modem.
then what will be setting of the necard connection to the modem....

if we do dynamic then one have to define ip pool in modem....
how that will be defined..since 59.90.x.x is a public ip....

if static ip is to be defined on server then what will be setting on the router.

i request any body who is using same type of setup or having knowledge abt it pl. reply early.

first of all the static IP is assigned by BSNL to your modem whenever it is turned on & get connected to bsnl network.you do not put this IP anywhere in modem or computer.what you are talking about is internal IP(like 192.168.x.x)which will be assigned to your NIC/LAN card by the modem & you can choose a static internal IP by selecting a particular IP.i am assuming that you want a static IP for your server & in that case configure your modem & server so that server always get a fixed internal IP so that all the traffic on your bsnl static IP will be forwarded to your server.

from ur reply on my thread i got :

i have to assign static ip on lan ip of modem which will be 59.90.x.x

then i will assign a dhcp pool let it be 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254

    then dhcp enable on router.
let me explainmy server configuartion :

i will use 2 netcard on my server :

one which will be conncetd to modem will have dynamic ip or static as as u will suggest ...

seond netcard will be haveour private network ip which will be 10.1.2.3/255.255.0.0

then all other users(clients) on network have ip 10.1.2.4-254
with subnet 255.255.0.0 and gateway as 10.1.2.3.

we will install squid proxy on this...

user will access from this proxy by giving http address as 10.1.2.3.

    will this work.

You must understand between external IP address and internal IP address. I have explained this in my guide here (Torrents and Port Forwarding Guide). This guide talks about port forwarding and torrents; nevertheless there is a section which deals with IP addresses. Understand those concepts.

In short, external IP address comes from an external source such as an ISP. The router's internal IP address is what you provide it. In case of general broadband (where the IP address is dynamic), BSNL will allocate the first available IP address in the format 59.xxx.xxx.xxx or 117.xxx.xxx.xxx. Today it could be 59.102.30.121 - tomorrow it could be 59.102.30.89, etc. Every new session will most likely get you a new (external) IP address.

In case of static IPs by BSNL, your modem/router will get the same IP address no matter what for every session. This IP address is reserved for you and bound to your user-id.

The modem/router has also an internal IP address such as 192.168.1.1 which you use to navigate to its web configuration page (by http://192.168.1.1).

Every ADSL modem/router has an option of configuring with a static IP. You must choose this option and provide the static IP given by the ISP - in your case BSNL. This configuration should be available in the WAN section. Under the WAN section configure your SL2-141 in PPPoE mode and use the option "Use the following IP address - WAN IP address" - specify the static IP address there.

SL2_141's WAN IP Address = External IP address
SL2_141's LAN IP Address = Internal IP address.

there is no need to assign static ip on router or pc..it will be automatically get done i think it is binded with phone number...or port in dslam..
so work can be done without disturbing any setting in modem...

    @bond4u
    1.Mention your modem/model make.
2.Are you getting connected to Internet now/

    3.Post
start run type cmd type ipconfig /all

    4.No change may be required,
unless you had changed the settings.

5.Anytime you test will be same now.
