Were you able to set this up? I am also trying to setup MT882 modem with linksys WRT54GC router but with no luck so far. Any tips, pointers or suggestions?

hi guys...I'm guessing you are using the Huawei SmartAX-MT882 modem with USB and LAN connection?

If so, I have the same setup at home - the same modem with the Linksys WRT54G router. However, I can only start posting settings once I get home.

Short of port-forwarding for torrents, however, the rest of the setup is quite straightforward. The first main obstacles to overcome are the following:

1) Setup of a different local IP for both the modem and the router.
By default, the Huawei modem will use 192.168.0.1 as its local IP. This, I've changed to 192.168.1.1 and set the Linksys router to 192.168.0.1. This not only helps the initial setup but is also recommended for port-forwarding later.

2) Configuration of the Linksys router's DHCP.
IIRC, you have to define the range of the router's DHCP addresses. Here, with your setup being a couple of home PCs/laptops, you don't need to overshoot your DHCP range. Keep it to 50 or below, from the starting IP address of 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.50 or whatever.

The rest of the settings I can post after I look at my setup at home. In the meantime, look through the Linksys forums for setups with 3rd party modems and you should get a clear idea of what to aim for.

For more advanced setups like port forwarding for torrents, etc. refer to other threads in this forum itself!
