i have some qurestions
if my bandwidth is 320Kbps then will my max download speed be only 40KB/s (as 320/8=40) ?
will my utorrent max download speed also be only 40KB/s?

even if my question is silly please reply!

: Difference between kBps and KBps :

Kilobyte (KB or K) = 1024 bytes (2 ^ 10) "binary kilobyte"
kilobyte (kB) = 1000 bytes (10 ^ 3) "decimal kilobyte"

Kilobit (Kb) = 1024 bits (2 ^ 10) "binary kilobit"
kilobit (kb) = 1000 bits (10 ^ 3) "decimal kilobit"

KBps = Kilobytes (1024 bytes) per second (binary)
kBps = kilobytes (1000 bytes) per second (decimal)

Kbps = Kilobits (1024 bits) per second (binary)
kbps = kilobits (1000 bits) per second (decimal)

bps = bits per second

Usually :

256 kbps = 32 kBps

I think my answer satisfied you.

Hi narasimhan1990, You are correct. for a 320kbps conenction, speeds will stay at 40KB/sec. this can vary a bit, depending on no of peers , traffic and ISP limits, however, mathematically u are correct.

There is some point.

In utorrent it shows speed in kBps and not in KBps..

now i surprisingly got 1Mbps bandwidth. so can the modem be on for a day or two because i rarely get such speeds. since the modem gets heated quite fast will it affect the modem. i use bridge mode so i think i won't be charged until i connect.

Modem heating up is normal and that will not really affet your speeds. Infact i keep my modem and router switched on for weeks/months at a time and they work just fine. as long as you are sure you're not getting charged, leaving the modem in is perfectly okay.

Also, if you're on a plan that say's "upto 2 mbps" then the speeds can actually vary from 128kbps - 2mbps depending in how loading you section of town is. Why dont u check and see what kind off speeds u get at nite, lets say after 11pm?

guys still the problem is not resolved. most of the time when i connect i get only 250-350 Kbps.
now its been 2 weeks since i got more than 350Kbps. once i got 2 Mbps but hard luck soon there was current shutdown.
i think it is a modem problem or something because
when i switch on the modem it connects. but when i switch off & switch on the modem it doesn't connect. i found out that once i switch off the modem i need to wait for 1hr to again switch on the modem to connect. this doesn't make sense. i tried both poppe mode and bridge mode but same results.
could u guys please explain how this is happens?

Default Low speed

Me too. I live in Kerala. I am suffering low speeds for the last 6 days. I used to get 220+ KBps from mirosoft server. No its just 20KBps. Used to download 3.5 - 4 GB in 6 hours. Now its 1.7 - 3 GB. (if the connection doesnt get disconnected frequently) It takes time for the torrent to pickup speed. Seems a nation wide problem.
