    Default Help requested!

    Hi There,

I have BSNL broadband connection works just fine on my desktop through a UT300R2U modem.

Now I need to share this connection with my laptop(through ethernet cable). I bought a Linksys router(RT31P2) for this purpose. I connected ethernet cable from modem to the internet input of linksys and another ehernet cable from router ethernet port to my desktop. I can't connect to the internet with this setup. I have followed the steps mentioned by 'just4kix' but couldn't suceed. Although it is shown UT300R2U as an example in the guide I see different screen when I log into the router. It looks several columns missing for me. When I try to log into linksys router by typing 192.168.1.1 after power up router I still get log in screen for modem not to the router. Also I need to enter username and password to connect to internet every time. How can I set it up for always on?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    Smile Once Again

Set ur Modem to PPOE Mode (Automatic Connection)
In TCP/IP Connection Set these parameter

    Comp 1: 192.168.1.2
    Comp 2: 192.168.1.3

    Gateway: 192.168.1.1
    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    DNS Server: 61.1.96.69
    Alternate: 61.1.96.71

(You can aslo try Open DNS)

NB: Kindly run Home networking wizard or set the Workgroup for both computers same.

    Default Thanks

Thanks rock_daring for a quick response. Everything worked OK once I set up modem to always-on mode. Thanks for the help.
