if i want to go for my sleep at say 10:00 PM, then wethear ur s/w has some macanism to stop all traffic from ur PC to Internet between 10:00-02:00 (some programs/viruses can download data if network connection is open).

Is ur s/w reboot the ADSL Modem at 02:00, like "Imran's Broadband Helper Utility" does, bcz if u don't reboot the modem then BSNL can say that since u have started the modem in non-free time u have to pay all the data used during the connection.

there r more features then these in "Imran's Broadband Helper Utility", try to compare it.

You can use A firewal cum Antivirus software like "Avira" to block all the unwanted trafiic i.e virusis etc

next thing is to us Bittorrent clients like "Bitcomet" etc for you torrent downloads,it also supports HTTP & FTP downloads.And for scheduling downloads between 2AM - 8AM use the in built schedular in Bitcomet

and for rapidshare "IHateRapidshare"


BECAUSE OF FIREWALL: Your other unwanted bandwidth usage because of virusis OR automatic software updates will be automaticly blocked both day time and night

BITCOMET:schedule your download according to your needs


and as for the billing during night unlimited i dont think its true
you restart or dont restart your modem it wont bill ur free usage


if it was true then its good news (you can download all day long for FREE by keepin you modem on in the morning

hot_guy, I started reading your post. Initially it was clear and coherent. But from the "IHateRapidshare" phrase, I am a bit lost.

I really don't understand. Firewall does not block viruses downloading stuff secrety if the virus has already infected the computer. Strong worms and trojans have beaten all kinds of AV's and Firewalls. The only option is to restore the registry (if you can; by no means guaranteed) or a complete reformatting.

Again not understood. Are you saying that modem restart/reboot is not required at 2 AM and once again at 8 AM? By simply putting a schedule in Torrent Client it will do the trick? If yes, then you are wrong.

Well mr hot_guy, i will like to see u "more HOT" like red chilly when u get a huge bill from BSNL for not rebooting the modem at 02:00 AM - if so many peoples r saying abt this then why u can't believe on this (they don't do this daily but they can do this for a day when u hv downloaded the most). on that day plz don't come to this forum and say "What to do?".
if u don't want to use any s/w for modem reboot then there is no problem, but don't say modem reboot is not important.

Yes u can block many things using a good firewall, but afterall Viruses r Virus & Virus Programmers r generally more intillegent then OS Programmers, firewalls can't gurantee to block them (did u hear about rootkits-find them then say). lastly using firewalls for blocking, and disabling the connection itself can't be comparable.

try to block Windows "svchost" process by ur firewall, todays viruses works behind this.

its up to u to "IHateRapidshare" and wait for a microsoft link, or download, scan, test & use whatever is available.

Hello all,

Slightly going off topic and picking on the "IHateRapidshare" comment ... this is what I have experienced

a) RS (guest access) allows only one download at a time
b) the speed is restricted to 500 kbps (80+ KB/s)
c) you cannot download any more files till the same minutes are past as the MB size of your last download, i.e., if you download 10 MB file, you have to wait another 10 minutes before you can download another file.
d) the trick is to fool RS by changing your real IP address - this may be possible by rebooting the modem (tough luck for those with static IPs and shared static IPs like Wimax users)

The alternat is of course a RS Premium account. But you need to pay for the premium account and it is by no means cheap @ €55 (~INR 3200) per year. Even at €7 per month or INR 400+, I consider this expensive. Or don't you? This is why I don't like RS. RS is making money out of piracy - make now mistake about this. Oh yes! They state that you are not supposed to upload or download copyrighted stuff, etc., etc., and thus protect themselves.

My point is you are not getting anything free and most of you use RS to download free stuff. Somehow, I am saddened to think that people spend Rs. 400 for Rapidshare and Rs. 600+ for broadband every month but will not buy legal stuff.

I am of the opinion that movie studios are charging too much money for DVDs and they should be brought down. Indeed it is possible to bring down the price as Moser Baer has shown (read this thread: http://www.indiabroadband.net/bollyw...er-movies.html (Moser Baer Movies)).

@ hot_guy: it would be better for you to listen to just4kix and nethack!! They are very right! I myself was billed more, that is how i started making this program!!
and google for rootkits and botnet, it will take you no time to realize that your standard firewall is not much of a help!!

@ just4kix: very right, but i guess most ppl are happy downloading one file at a time, rather than not getting it at all!

@ nethack: kindly post links to your program "imrans.."

Secondly i completely disagree with you about blocking you can block almost every traffic with d help of a good firewall

just luk at attachments you can see every ip you are connected to



First thing :same is the my expreance.
I Can guarentee you that most of you are doing atleast some illegal stuff on rapidshare
