    Lightbulb BSNL DNS Servers Configuration

    Modem: ZTE ZXDSL 831II
    Plan: Home UL 900
    OS: Windows XP
    Location: Goa, India

Currently I have changed the DNS as follows:
    Primary 218.248.240.208 (ns3.bsnl.in)
    Secondary 218.248.240.24 (ns5.bsnl.in)

Appreciate suggestions to improve Internet Access.

I still have problems accessing my gmail, majorgeeks, etc.

    Thanks.

instead of using the bsnl dns server try using these open dns server. these are considered to be the best dns servers in this world.

    Primary DNS :-218.67.222.222

    Dear fernacOa,
I saw your post regarding DNS servers. I have the same ZTE ZXDSL 831AII model of DSL modem supllied by BSNL.
AS my modem is configured for auto-assigning IP address and auto-DNS ,I was unable to use openDNS servers which offer much better performance.
In addition to BSNL, I have also have a internet connection through local
cable operator. In this connection I have set openDNS servers as primary/secondary DNS servers. Here static IP is provided and believe me pages open much faster than BSNL.
How did you change primary/secondary DNS servers in ZXDSL modem ?
I am unable to locate the menu/page . You step-by-step
guide would be much useful .

Member niraj8241 is correct in advising you to change to openDNS servers .IT is my experience and of my other members that openDNS servers offer much better performance vis-a -vis BSNL 's own DNS servers.

please try them and advise your experience.

    DEAR rahulyo,

openDNS servers serve a worldwide community of users.,while BSNL servers serve only its own captive Internet users. openDNS servers dynamically distribute load among various physical servers and are able to offer much better performance.BSNL does not seem to bother much about its performance and customer satisfaction .

Why don't you try them for a few days and compare them with your own experience with BSNL DNS servers ?

When pinging the OpenDNS Servers as opposed to nsx.bsnl.in (where x = 1 to 6) I find that the OpenDNS Servers are much slower. So much for speed. But they may be useful where acess to websites are concerned.

For example, I have difficulties accessing websites like:
    mail.google.com
    majorgeeks.com
    softpedia.com

I resolved the problem of opeining my gmail using gmail notifier.

Any suggestions on the other two?

    Tony

u can do this very well in while using utorrent. go to preference->advanced->search for a option called net_max_half_open(set this value to 80) (default=8). then see the speed .

I am not sure that this will do the trick. uTorrent may try to have many half open connections but Windows will not allow more than 10. Are you sure that this is working for you?

    about Half-open_limit.
I have a file...with which you can configure your tcpip.sys to change half-open limit.
if you just change it in the utorrent preference it will make no difference in speed.

unfortunately, I cannot post outside urls
    file's name is "Half-open_limit_fix_3.8.exe"
    google it.

if u really want it...pm me, i'll pm u the rapidsharelink

They are universal dns >>> 208.67...... usually slow

    you should try
    Preferred : 218.248.255.193
    Secondary : 218.248.255.161
