    Default Adsl Sl2_141

    Hi:

    I have a query.

Following BSNL directions to set up security, I am asked to set WEP Encryption = Enabled. Can this be kept as Disabled?

When I do that it asks for Network Keys.

    1. What do I do?
    2. What are these network keys? Do I need these keys when I try to connect to the modem?

Incidently, I have a laptop and a PC.

    Thanks - Prabir.

    Default Siemens SL2_141

    Hi:

Thank you for your quick response.

I have Siemens SL2_141 wireless modem with 4 ports.

If I set WEP Encryption = Enabled, I need to mention Network Keys. My question is do I need to set WEP Encryption to Enabled?

I have a laptop and a PC. I have not set up Multiuser configuration as yet, but I guess I need the security that I am tryimg to set up first.

Could you kindly explain what are these Network Keys? If I do need them, would I be asked for the key when I try to connect to the Internet?

    Regards - Prabir.

yes everytime any computer or any laptop tries to connect to your modem it will
ask network key ............thats advantage behind the WEP encryption ..................so nobody else uses your internet connection without your permission ..........for eg:if you haven't enabled security and you are on a limited download/upload, somebody else connects to your internet connection and uses your account like hell and in the end of the month you landed in huge amount of bill................

whether you need to set WEP encryption enabled or not that depends on you

Therefore, for my laptop and my PC I need to have two network keys. Am I right?

AND if Network key is so important what is the use of WPA Pre-Shared Key.

Sorry - I am trying to learn

    @amb_ban
Follow Part 2 wireless security instructions.
Remember/note down the key you use.

The same key you entered in your Wifi router to be
entered either in desktop or laptop to access the net.
or any other computer trying to connect to your internet.

The secured wireless net needs a security key.
Check in your computer for any unsecured WIfi networks.

Thanks for the guide..Is the network key provided alongwith the modem/router package or I can provide a key as per my wish? I am puzzled cos I tried giving a numerical key according to my choice but it did not accept.

try a mix of lettters and numbers. do not repeat any character.
You have to save twice.see the screen shot.
Note down the key ( like password ) in a secure place.
