Default Setup of Netgear WGR614 v4 with UT300R2U

I am using a single PC. The WLAN configuration in UT300R2U is bridge. Please refer to the attachment along with this response. The problem is that my WGR614v4 is not able to connect to the netgear site as a process of testing the connection. Does the bsnl user name in the WGR614v4 has to be appended with a @dataone.in?

    TIA,
    Purnendu

just4kix here is an expert on such setups.here is the thread he started---
http://www.indiabroadband.net/bsnl-b...er-wrt54g.html (Setup of ADSL Modem/Router UT-300R2U with Linksys Wireless Router WRT54G)

i don't know much but i remember some things from just4kix posts.you must set the internal IP range different for modem & router like 192.168.0.1 for modem & 192.168.1.1 for router with both subnets 255.255.255.0

first of all your router must get a connection from modem & in the connection tab it should show the IP range different from modem(like i mentioned in my previous post).

dhcp must be enabled in ut300rtu & set its range from 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.100
change IP address of router to 192.168.2.1
router must be setup in pppoe mode.

    one of just4kix's replies---
@Niladri, Are you able to connect to the Linksys Router Web Interface? If yes, go to the 'Status' tab and check the connection status. The status page should display a real IP address. If it displays 0.0.0.0, then you are not connected. Click on the 'Connect' button on that page and see whether it connects to the BSNL Bridge (mdem/router).

If it does not connect, it will return an error message.

If this happens, check the BSNL modem/router. See whether it is setup as a bridge. Connect your laptop directly to BSNL modem/router via Ethernet cable and setup a dialer connection (how to do this is explained in my guide). Try connecting to the internet that way. If that works then the problem is with Linksys setup. If not, the BSNL modem/router needs to be set up again (you may have to reset it, if required).

If the problem is with Linksys setup, redo Linksys setup. Reset Linksys router if required.

@wecaz,also router can not be used without a modem for an internet connection so you have to setup your router after connecting it to modem for bsnl broadband.

authentication failure shows that something is wrong with your bsnl username/password.enter your bsnl username without @bsnl.in & then try but then you can not possibly connect to net.also if the connection shows you are connected to net it also usually shows the IP address in front of connection which is empty in the pic you posted.run ipconfig /all & post the results because i am not getting how you can connect to net even after authentication failure error.

seeing your results it seems that you are not using pppoe mode but bridge mode.if that is the case then you have to simply connect router to modem & then setup your modem in pppoe mode by entering your bsnl username/password in router itself.also be sure to first connect only router to computer & configure it in pppoe mode then change the LAN IP address of router to 192.168.2.1 & similarly change the Ip address to something like 192.168.2.4 in computer LAN settings & put gateway & dns as 192.168.2.1(pointing to router).now put the gateway/dns server as 192.168.1.1(pointing to modem)in router LAN settings.after this connect modem to router & you should be able to access now both modem & router from computer.
first do this & see if you can now access modem from computer.

Default Re:Setup of Netgear WGR614 v4 with UT300R2U:No PPOE server detected

    Hello whitestar_999,
Thanks for the suggestion. But i am still not able to connect. I tried resetting my netgear router.
Upon running the setup wizard , it automatically detects the connection type as "PPOE". But when its trying to test it , it fails. Also if i try manualy to setup a connection the router says "No PPOE server detected"

    Default hi

please use the info given below exactly as mentioned and it will work 100%..

    1) Disconnect the modem from the router and connect the computer directly into one of the LAN port of the router. You should be getting only power and LAN port (ie. number)light on the router. Please try to reset the router by pressing the reset button (small button inside a circular hole) on the backside of the router for 20 seconds and then release it. Powercycle the unit.
    2) Open the browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape).
    3) Access the router using http://www.routerlogin.net/basicsetting.htm.
    4) Login to the router (User Name = admin Password = password unless you have changed it).
    5) Under LAN IP Setup (under the Advanced option)change the IP address of the router from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.5.1, the starting ip address will be 192.168.5.2 and ending ip address will be 192.168.5.50.
    6) Click on Apply to save the changes and then you will get the error message as "Action Cancelled" or "Page cannot be displayed".
    7) Powercycle the router.
    8) Now connect the modem into the internet port of the router.
    9) Open the browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape).
    10) Access the router (usually http://192.168.5.1).
    11) Login to the router (User Name = admin Password = password unless you have changed it).
    12) Click on Setup Wizard and then select "Yes" and Click "Next" on the detection window.
    13) It should give you a "PPPoE Detected" and then click next
    14) Then under login and password type in your login/password for your DSL account (the user name should be full like user@....) and click Apply.
    15) Click on Test to test the internet connection.

Hi Whitestar, I do agree with your comment. May I know if there are any compatibility issues with the router. I will be using netgear WPN824 with any other modem.

there should not be any issues as netgear is used by many & infact it is also the most recommended one at various forums/sites.here is a review of your particular model---

    Default Successs!!!!!

    Hello pals,
I am now being able to connect to the internet with Netgear WGR614 v4.
Here are some of the things i did as per advised in the forum which really moved the stumbling blocks.

    1. Connection Timeout value set to 0 ( thanks to just4kix). I found that with any other values, i am not able to connect. Infact i am using this router since 5 years , but couldn't find the reason why it doesn't work for values other than 0.

    2. I had upgraded my router few years back. I rolled back the upgrade. I had no reason to do this. But i wanted to ensure to bring the router to factory defaults.

3.DNS setting in the router set to automatically getting from ISP(thanks to just4kix)

    Observation:
    1) There is a delay for about a minute for the router to get connected to the PPOE server and get the internet settings. I think i can live with that for some time.

    2) The subnet mask which the Netgear router gets is "255:0:0:0". Now thats strange becos when i connect to the modem directly i get the subnet mask for the broadband connection as "255:255:0:0". Any takers for these!!

    Thanks a lot!!!

Connecting to PPOE server takes normally around 20-30 seconds.. it should be fine.. the bsnl modem has no access to change the subnet mask of the netgear router..you may change it manually if you wish..not necessary in your case though
