try to open these sites through free web proxy sites.if you can open them this way then problem is with bsnl's dns servers.

    Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

My DNS Servers are as follows:

Within the Modem ZXDSL 831AII (automatically set)
    Primary ns3.bsnl.com
    Secondary 218.248.240.24

What are yours? And are we able to manually change them thru the Modem or the Network Connection Properties?

    Thanks.

Are the usage of such free web proxies allowed by bsnl?

yes!you can also try opendns servers which are recommended & used by many bsnl users.the addresses are---208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

    some good proxy sites are---
    Anonymouse.org
Ninja Cloak | Fast, free, anonymous web browsing with NinjaCloak.com

Thanks, they work thru the free web proxies.

I wonder what this means. Does BSNL block usage of sites? How can they do this without a proxy server?

    Thanks.

bsnl dns servers are too overloaded & therefore they sometimes can't handle request for opening certain websites.

If u have time, please let me know how it is done as I too find it very difficult to log on to certain sites at certain times. Particularly with yahoo and irctc.co.in. strangely yahoo mail opens and yahoo games does not. I do not know what is the reason. I am certain yahoo cannot have so frequent disruptions to its services.

    Hi Lakshmi,

I used the Open DNS Server as recommended by whitestar_999, but not before I researched them on OpenDNS | Providing A Safer And Faster Internet. This fixed my problems on the slow inefficient DNS servers from BSNL.

Regarding your Yahoo games, it has to do with Java Runtime Environment not being installed. Go to Download Java software from Sun Microsystems and install the appropriate jre for your Operating System.

    Hope you succeed.
    Regards,
    Tony

Thanks for the reply. i will try to find out something from the opendns site you have suggested.
But the problem is not java runtime as it is not only the latest version but also works without any problem once i log in. i cannot sign into the games server where as it is not a problem with yahoo mail.
