Default I am in a fix please help

I am new to this site and am using Bharti Broadband relayed by my cable operator......however I am soon going to shift to Kolkata and i want to know which unlimited download should i opt for? (keeping costs in mind my range is upto 1000 rupees/month)
I have heard that BSNL provides excellent speeds whereas with Bharti Broadband or Airtel I am pretty much satisfied with the service but not much with the speeds as I get on an average 65 kbs/sec ...sometimes it drops to even 50 ......
Please suggest....I would be extremely grateful.

with a limit of Rs.1000 the only unlimited plan you will get from bsnl is 256kbps(32KBps max).all high speed 2mbps plans are limited.for Rs.500 you will get home 500 plan with 2.5GB limit for whole month(surfing, chatting, utube all counts) & free night time(in which whatever you do will be free i.e download, upload, surfing etc)from 2-8AM.
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

You should check up the plans/tariffs on the BSNL site. Once you shortlist one or two plans then you could ask opinions on the same.

the speeds in the unlimited plans are very poor it depends on your area how well the wires(optical fibre) are laid out if you are lucky then you will always get 30KB/s and even more, thats the theory part that you will get 32KB/s max. i even sometimes get even more than this ..........but if you want speed then you should go for the home 500 plan which has lightening fast speed upto 2mbps i.e you will get 256KB/s actual and maximum download speed.
    the choice is yours

Ok thanks now I checked the tariffs and I have shortlisted these :

1.) BSNL home 500 plan that gives you 2.5 GB free download
and free night surfing from 2am to 8 am

    2.) BSNL Home ul 750

    3.)BSNL Home ul 750 plus

    4.) Airtel Home 799

    5.) Airtel Home 999

Now my main objective is to download good movies via torrents etc that is almost 1.5 gb size ( for a good DVD quality movie)

    My queries are
1.)is it possible to download a movie in that 2 - 8 am period considering the BSNL Home 500 plan?

2.)Within the shortlisted plans which one is the best?

3.)Does Airtel also have a free night surfing plan like BSNL Home 500 ?

4.)Is there any other service provider offering better facilities?

Theoritically yes, but depends upon the number of seeds. The average speed that you usually get is 1.5 ~ 1.8 mbps which is roughly 200~230 KB/s. So in one hour you could download up to 0.8 GB of data. But as the caveat states, it depends upon the number of connections (seeds) and also your port being open.

BSNL Home 500 C is the best provided that you are able to manage all heavy downloads from 2 AM to 8 AM. And it could also bring a lot of grief if you mismanage downloads.

    Check the Airtel website.

Also, most people do no realize this:

    a) Usage limit includes download + upload
    b) Text chatting also consumes bandwidth and so does phone+video call using services such as Skype or Yahoo. Phone/Video takes much larger usage.
    c) Surfing also counts as usage and if the site contains lot of graphics, flash, etc. it counts as well.
    ...and finally ...
    d) In torrents, there is downloading as well as uploading. Even while downloading a torrent, you are also uploading. Many people think that they have downloaded a movie of 700 MB but forget that they may have uploaded 300 MB during the same time. So the usage is 1000 MB and not 700 MB. So as long as usage is managed during 2 AM to 8 AM, you should be fine.

you have to be very careful when your are opting for BSNL home 500 if something goes wrong you will land in big awsome bills which you will stare at like you are seeing a big diamond......lol........and you should have some practice to sleep after (starting all your downloads) 2AM and getting up before 8 AM .............to stop all your downloads and if you are downloading with torrents and if the download completes in the free time be SURE to shut down u-torrent after 8 AM as when the download is complete u-torrent starts uploading......be sure you check this

Thank you all of you for your response
Now I wanted to know you people being senior members ; do you people have the experience of having people coming up with bills by which they have been bamboozled?
I think I know how to use utorrent though didn't know that ; it starts uploading after having completed download . Also I have the experience of staying up whole night ! So that wouldn't be a problem either.
But isn't there any way of knowing the data transfer entering a password in BSNL like I have here in Bharti ??
I guess I had once come up this add on in Mozilla ; does'nt this help??
Is there any software that speeds up download ?Like Download Accelerator Plus?
Thanks again for your previous responses.

    Yes. There are often mistakes.

    a) Earlier I was on UL900+. After six months of proper billing, I started getting charges for Rs. 60 for modem even when I had purchased the modem outright. I compalined twice and in the third month I got the refund back.

    b) I changed to Home 500 C recently and the first bill came to 4K plus (voice+data). They charged me Rs. 2700 on UL900+. There there were some other other charges. I was in USA at that time. My wife had to talk to the BSNL people and the bill was reduced to 1200 something.

For automated downloading there are many links here that show how to make it happen.
