one or our members has replied, asking me to use Type 4 modem

In the below link,

what is the difference between type 2, and type 4.
Is it jus the ports that differ.. or anything else

As whitestar said the difference is only in number of ports. So personally I think Type IV is more worth the money.

yea i also agree that type 4 modem is worth the money .....its the best value for money router.....there are no brands that are selling ADSL routers at a price tag of rs1800 .......if you know that brand please tell the name of it ........and let me add one more thing its wi-fi ......so in the end i say it is really worth the money......i am using the type 4 modem which is siemens sl2_141 my modem is always on i.e. 24x7x365........and i have come up with no problems at all .......so
by this the reliability is also checked

Unhappy How to get a new Wireless Modem?

I am already having BSNL 500 plan and have a Modem with one LAN and one WAN port. I would like to exchange it and would like to get a modem with Wireless and more LAN ports. How can I do that? What number I need to call? Will it be a free replacement as I have the connection so long?

Default How to detect the ever changing Dynamic IP address?

Dear Friends:

I use www.logmein.com to manage my Modem remotely. But as long as the computer is on, logmein shows me the IP address. But after the PC is turned off, and if the Modem reboots, I am missing the IP address. Is there any way I can scan the IP address range to see my machine? Is there a threat that BSNL may black list my IP address range from where I initiate my scan?

Thanks
SK

Friend,

Its very large pool of addresses that service providers use for dynamic assigment. So its not at all easy to scan all segments and find out your machine even if service provider do not do blacklisting. so better apply and get a static IP.
All ISPs use blacklisting service either as paid service or free(spamhost)

to correctly use logmein your computer must be on.you can get the modem's IP from computer itself by looking at the modem config pages from the computer itself.you can use the scan but it will take extra time & i don't think bsnl will black list the IP range from where scan is initiated.

i am confused by your problem.the purpose of logmein is to controal a computer whose IP address you don't know or it is dynamic/behind firewall & you can't open/forward ports.if your computer is on there is no need for you to know the IP address as long as computer is on.even if modem reboots you can still connect to your computer with new IP since logmein service running on your computer will automatically connect to net after connection is made.
