you could get the one from bsnl itself its cheap and it doesnt give much trouble.. bsnl only provides routers i think. All their models are routers. You could go for the wifi router ,Even if you dont have a wifi device like a laptop it could come in handy later..it costs rs 1800 ..
but if you insist on buying your own, then you could look for some ADSL routers.Remember ADSL dont just go and buy any router.Netgear has some really good routers

Yeah, get a wifi ADSL2+ type IV modem (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.).

It has provision for wifi and 4 LAN ports. It supports for maximum bandwidth so even in future if you plan to change your bandwidth to higher one, you can make use of same modem.

First of all let us understand BB technology (refer my article (The very basic Broadband Guide)). A modem is required for any internet connection because only the modem can "dial" the ISP server, autheticate and establish connection. A router is a device that provides NAT service, i.e., allows multiple internal IPs to a single external IP.

All ADSL equipment provided by BSNL (and other ISPs as well) have a modem+router built-in. On the other hand a router (wired or wireless) may not have a built-in modem. This kind of router is of no use to you in Indian context.

Now as superprash2003 and skap suggested above, you are well advised to go in for BSNL provided modems - they are cheap and well worth the money. I will suggest an outright purchase and for the Type IV ADSL 2+ modem/router is the best buy of the lot.

yeah i will also suggest to go for Type-IV modem..........i also have purchased this ADSL modem+router .........its really good and is the best value for money..
and in terms of reliability it is also very good because my modem is always on 24x7.......i didn't even bother to turn it off!!!!!....... and i haven't encountered a single problem.
