    Default Bsnl Excess Billing

    Hi ,

Like most of you i am fed up with bsnl usage charges. I got teh connection 3 months back. Two months biolling was fine with excess of abt100-200 rs on the HOME COMBO PLAN. This mohth to my horror the bill wsa arnd 3600 Rs out of which broadband charges alone 2800 rs . When i looked at my usage charges i am puzzled that the download are charged more than what it shoudl have been. For insatnce i was accessing onlymy yahoo and gmail emails and there areno high fy images or upload or download and usage was arnd 50MB. Even for this month may within 13 days it shows a excess of 300MB , i am not sure what to do when the maximum browing i used to do is check emails and do some of my office work.

Priror to BSNL i had hathwat quarterly 1.2 GB for 3 mionths that was more than sufficient but now look slike it exceeds 1.5GB as per bsnl for the same work.

Is there a way where we can fight. I strongly feel that they ahve added excess usage . for instance if the usage wasonly 2 MB they have added 20MB or so But how do i prove it??

    Regards

nowadays, lot of users started complaining about excess billing in BSNL usage?!! ....from my end, like to give some recommendations..

    Keep strong account password
Check for any doubtful rules in modem settings
Enable firewall in your system and enable only required ports

    Hi,
Though I'm a newbie I think check whether your Windows Automatic Updates are turned on. If yes, this can amount to nearly 800MB of updates.

    @sunilgct

First Change your password (Both login pass & portal ID pass)

Check your boradband usage on a regular basis. Like babai said turn off windows automatic updates.

Btw what method did you use to find out how much MB you used ?

    Hi thats_me,
Just go to the Microsoft Update Site (not advisable if you don't own a genuine copy) and let them check your machine for suggested updates for all M$ softwares. As for me running MS Windows XP SP3 & having both Office 2003 & 2007 they suggested 788MB & about 5hrs 32mins at my connection speed!

This is not at all surprising for me. I dont know how they generate the bill. My usages for the month of november 2008 shows the following

    Service name BSNL BROADBAND

    Account Number -------------

    Service user id --------------

    Total Downlink Data(KB) 4719213

    Total Uplink Data(KB) 241994

    Chargeable Units (KB)
    Excluding Night Unlimited 2492728
    Broadband

I am using plan home 500 so i have 2.5 gb usages free, from where did they find my extra usages and charged Rs 1800 extra, quite confusing.

I think you are in safe no usage charge will apply your actual usage is 2492728/1024=2434 MB below 2.5 GB wright your activation day.Is you are a new customer ? if your account started in the middle of the November(or any day in November mention it) then your free usage will be reduce

Not really, my account was started in july 2008 and changed my plan from home 250 to home 500 on 29th of oct. I also checked my account on 1st of nov and the plan home 500 was already activated that time.

Default BSNL Cheating people in the name of Combo Offer

When BSNL introduced it's combo offer for Rs, 5000/-, we readily applied for our Brother-in-law in Tiruchi. Only after applying, we came to know that the package really cost us Rs.8000/- with all installation and taxes included. We still went ahead. We have never used 1024 MB per month. But every month, some amount or other is coming as usage. As with all BSNL customers, because of lack of time, we don't get into their 'manipulated' details and fight with them, rather we just pay what they ask for. This month the net usage bill has come beyond Rs.3000/- !!! No way it can be that. It's time to fight with BSNL. We are interested to know whether this cheating is happening to others also.

    There are many possibilties.

    1. It can be a virus or malware. They increase the usage exponentially and we will never know.

    2. Somebody hacked your account.

    3. Billing error

    Solution

    1. The first thing to do is a written complaint to the Chief accounts officer of your SSA (Secondary Switching Area). Apart from that, make a call to him and explain in person and seek help.

    2. Perform a full system scan. If it a virus, it can happen next month also.

    3. Check with Senior Divisional Engineer (ask specifically ) and ask details of your usage. If your usage does not contain your mac id, they are not yours.
Check bsnl portal BSNL NIB-II PORTAL and counter check the usage. Check if there is any usage that does not belongs to you.

    4. If there is any error in billing, talk to the accounts section. They will fix it in a few minutes.

    5. Please do not wait for bill to check your usage. You can use a bandwidth meter to check your usage.

The values are approximate, please counter check at regular intervals (with the portal ).
