    Default Modem Problem

I recieved a faulty modem from BSNL. Which works 15 - 20 min and then stop working. After 20 min the power lamp, DSL lamp etc behaves normally but, I can not open a single page even. My PC is working, and there is no problem with my PC. I am sure about that. My modem is type IV from Siemens (SL2_141) Now what to do. BSNL Authority says that, they can not replace the modem.

BSNL won't replace the modem if you have purchased it from them(i learned it after my modem fried & had to shell out Rs.500 to an inside man to get a new bsnl modem).to be sure that problem is with modem check it by using the modem with some other computer/laptop.don't be so sure about computers as even if a computer is working fine there may be some problems in softwares/configuration which may result in such problems.

I have done these things. Means I have tried it from other 3 computers with different phone lines where the broadband is working fine. But it got disturbed when I used my modem with that working lines. The BSNL provisioned my connection only 10 - 15 days ago and the problem started right after the installation. Now what to do

if you have purchased the modem then i am afraid there is not much to do.see if you can find someone willing to sell some old/2nd hand modem or you may want to purchase a new wifi modem from some reputed company like netgear,linksys,D-Link etc.these modems will last longer & comes with a 1 year warranty too unlike bsnl modems.

Hey I have an idea....i hope it may work...

Write an application stating that i need to change my modem (don't state that my modem is faulty) and i want to opt for the Type I or whichever you like thats all .....i am sure that your modem will be changed

    Hope it works

since you got your modem recently, you could try approaching bsnl CC .Tell them about your problem and hopefully they will do something

Dear friend!!! Actually I want to know that if there is any legal provision in BSNL to replace this faulty modem? Because our local authority is not sure about this, as I am the second person who got Broadband connection in our city. Broadband is started here from 1st May 2008 only. If there is a provision than I shall definitely get a replacement.

i asked about the same from DE(2nd most senior BSNL official in a district)& he clearly told me that BSNL don't provide any warrenty for the modems purchased from them.if the modem is on rent it may be possible but not for purchased modem.only time you can ask for replacement of purchased modem is when bsnl people come to install broadband at your home.at that time if you find something wrong with modem you can refuse to sign the receipt but once it's done modem is totally your responsibility.

My problem is solved by BSNL. From my personal knowledge I can say that only a proper approach can solve any problem. Thank you all for your suggestion
