Question BSNL Home 500 plan bill

I have taken a new BSNL broadband connection 2 months back. The first month bill had the charges for the modem, etc. , which is okay.

The second month bill had a total of Rs. 764/-, which is
BroandBand Charge - Rs 500/-
plus
Fixed monthly charges - Rs 180/-
plus
Taxes - Rs 84/-

I checked my broadband usage and it is 800MB, less than the limit of 2GB. I can hence understand the charges of Rs 500/-, which is as per my plan. But why am I getting a fixed monthly charge of Rs 180/- ? Is it for the landline phone ? I have never made a call from the landline, and dont intend to use it too.

Is this billing expected ? Can I avoid this extra Rs 180/- ?

BSNL broadband connection can not be given without a landline phone connection no matter you plan to use it or not.Rs.180 is the charge for this landline connection.you will get a fixed no.of free calls in this Rs.180 so my suggestion is use it.in any case you have to pay for the landline separately from broadband.check at bsnl site for the no.of free calls you got.

That 180 rs are of your landline rent (please correct me if i am wrong) you can easily overcome that by opting a plan which waives off this amount.you can opt for home 500C+ which will do the job.......but in this case there will be no free calls.

I am on UL750 Plus plan so there is no rent charge coming in my bill only the taxes and call charges

Question

Thanks for your replies. Yes, I guess the Rs 180/- is for the landline.

However, the following link in BSNL broandband website shows that, for both 500 and 500C+, the fixed monthly charges should be zero.

http://http://www.bsnl.co.in/service/dataone_tariff.htm.

I am not sure if it is a mistake in the website or in the billing, or in my understanding.

There are three plans:

a) Home 500
b) Home 500 C (C stands for Combo)
c) Home 500 C+

Fixed landline rental is not applied for (b) and (c) but chargeable for (a). You are on plan (a) and hence you are being charged for the same. There is nothing wrong about the bill. You should request for Home 500 C or Home 500 C+ to get a waiver.

Question

Thanks a lot. I just realized the same thing. The only side effect of this is that the download limit will come down from 2.5Gb to 1.5Gb, but that is okay for me.

What should I do to change the plan from 500 to 500C ? How long does it take to get it done ?

home 500C+ comes with same 2.5GB limit but actual bill after taxes will be around rs.600 i think.

Write a application for a plan change and submit it in your local exchange ...
your plan will converted to the other one at the end of the billing cycle
