    Default ZXDSL531B modem please help

    anyone having this modem ZXDSL531B.4 lan and wifi. this is because ii want to connect my pc and lappy both simultaneously to internet(bsnl 500plan). here do i require to purchase new router or not .please help

    no you dont need a new router.. is your router connected in bridged mode or ppoe mode? do you require dialing to connect to the internet?

    i had to always double click on the shortcut to connect to net in xp and in vista also same. but i m unable to figure it out whether it is in bridged or pppoe mode.

    ok.. that means its in bridged mode.. you need to change it to ppoe mode.. i dont have the exact steps but you can refer this Prashanth Speaks-Technology and Life: How To setup PPOE mode (Automatic Dialing) in UT300R2U
    login to your mode.. go to the WAN page.. and go to vpi 0/35 and select ppoe .. enter bsnl username and password details..save and reboot

    but in this mode. is there more data withdrawl from the net in background.as when we just start our modem and net is connected.as i have 500 plan and not the unlimited one.

    no.. if your modem is on and your pcs are off.. nothing is transmitted..

    For safety sake switch the modem OFF when not in use. This will also save power and stop modem heating, component wear out, etc. In addition, no data will be transmitted in PPPoE mode (that is required to keep the connection alive).
