no its not normal .......... you should be able to open routers config. page through 192.168.1.1 and if you are not able to open this page try assigning a manual IP address and then see f you are able to open modem's config page or not

Note: you need a crossover cable to connect the router with the BSNL modem if you are using a simple LAN cable it will not work

crossover cable which comes with my modem is white in colour with a pin/socket at each end.one end goes into ethernet port on modem & other goes into LAN port on PC.

normally routers work with both kinds of cables.. although between computers only crossover cable would work..

hi al... how do i manually configure the router..i managed to enter 19.168.1.1
what are the settings shoudl i input..when i chk ipconfig/all it shows below setting ,that is when modem is directly connected to desktop pc without router..

    dhcp enabled : yes
    ip address : 192.168.1.3
    subnet: 255.255.255.0
    default gateway : 192.168.1.1
    dhcp server : 192.168.1.1
    dns server : 192.168.1.1

do i enter these settings on the router config page?

before a month my internet and wireless connxn were working perfectly...ever since bsnl changed their dnd server from 61.1.96.69/71 to 218.248.240.208..everything is gone..

as per them new server settings are 218.248.240.208/135..why these are not showing in ipconfig/all?

most important, why router is not connecting to internet when the internet indicator on the router(green one) is on..

    read this---
http://www.indiabroadband.net/bsnl-b...er-wrt54g.html (Setup of ADSL Modem/Router UT-300R2U with Linksys Wireless Router WRT54G)

router must be set to a different IP range from modem.if modem's IP range is 192.168.1.1 then router must be set to 192.168.2.1 with 192.168.2.1 as its home page.after that you can set the modem in bridge mode & router in pppoe mode by entering your bsnl username/password in router.

as per them new server settings are 218.248.240.208/135..why these are not showing in ipconfig/all?
because these dns are automatically selected by connection/modem & in pppoe mode(in which modem makes the connection).ipconfig won't show the dns i think.it will show these addresses in bridge mode.in pppoe mode in modem you can see dns addresses.

your dns server shows 192.168.1.1 which is your bsnl modem ip.. so whatever DNS info is store in your modem will be used .. in the modem config page go to the DNS tab, to see which DNS servers are being used..
did you follow the guide posted by player(3rd post)?Where are you stuck? what have you done so far?
