Unhappy Slow Download Speed in torrents and P2P

I have BSNL broadband unlimited download plan.
Since the first day i've started using torrents my download speed hardly reaches
10 kbps. I oscillates between 4- 7 kbps.
However when I checked in speedtest.net through the mumbai server it showed a max download speed of 200 kbps and even when i download direct links it reaches speed upto 100 kbps but dont know the problem with torrents.
I use bittorrent and utorrent client.
Its pissing me off bcoz since the day ive got the connection ive just downloaded around 200 MB while my friends download 10 GB per day.

So please! help me out friends.
Thank you in advance.

10GB in a day is not possible at all if you download between free time 2-8AM only on a 2mbps plan.

unlimited plan speed is 256kbps(32KBps max) at which you can download around 2GB in a day.check that in utorrent you get a green triangle at the bottom & not a yellow exclamation mark.

since you get the green tick that normally means that your port is open.. do you use bridged mode? try downloading a popular torrent with a lot of seeds.. you may be getting low speeds because of less no of seeds..

Default What is bridged mode?

what is bridged mode?
I was once trying to download a file with around 6000 seeds and 10000 peers
and my speed was just 5.8 kbps.

Even with high seeding torrents my speed is very low.

bridged mode is the one in which u use a external(one which is created using the new connection wizard in windows xp) dialer to dial to the internet but in the pppoe mode the internet is connected by the dialer of the modem which is builtin in the modem ......

try downloading utorrent and change ur max_half_open connection to 80 rather than 8.
it will surely give the speed.

default modem configuration page is 192.168.1.1 for most of the modems.open it using any browser & default username/password is admin/admin usually.once you open the page see this guide to configure port forwarding--
http://www.indiabroadband.net/bsnl-b...sl2_141-a.html (configuring port forwarding & accessing advanced options in SIEMENS SL2_141)

also enable encryption for outgoing connections in utorrent preferences.
