Default Parallel connection to laptop and computer

Hi,
I am using a Sony Vaio laptop(XP Home) and a pc(XP Professional).
I have a siemens c2110 modem to connect to the internet.
One machine is connected to USB port and the other is connected to the ethernet port to access the internet. but i am unable to access the internet at a time in both the systems. Can we connect the two machines at a time to internet without any router? If yes please help me.
TIA.

whats the make and model of your modem?

If you want to connect your laptop wirelessly you would either need a modem with an inbuild wifi router or if your modem doesnt have a wifi router you can buy a wireless router for less then Rs800. Net gear routers are pretty cheap.

go through this guide

In short: just configure your modem to pppoe mode and the prolem will be solved

sony vio & mac book uses different operating systems so better option would be to use a wireless router.i am not familiar with mac OS X so don't know how networking works.try to go through help to see if there is some option to connect to a windows network.
