your connection speed as told by you is 256kbps and in utorrent it shows in kBps and not in kbps. so assuming 22kBps your speed is 22*8=176 kbps. it is normal i think.

i don't use utorrent for downloading. i am not sure what yellow sign is. how ever i assume that when the connectin is alright the sign will be green and when there is no connection at all it will be red. so yellow is something in between.

let us go little forward. what is the type of connection you have configured? bridge or pppoe? ie you've to input username and password every time you use net(bridge mode) or you are connected to net as soon as you switch on your modem?(pppoe mode).

if you are in the bridge mode, then in your firewall, go to exceptions and add utorrent there. this will stop utorrent being troubled by your firewall.

if you are in pppoe mode, then you've to do portforwarding. go through the other posts and you can do it. its not that tough.

all the best for a green sign.

    regards
    nisant

You are getting a speed less that maximum. The max that you will get is 32 KB/s with your connection. But speed also depends upon:

    - how many torrent seeds are present
    - how many active torrent downloads are existing
    - are there any other parallel (file) downloads from other websites

You see that your bandwidth will be shared by all internet applications. For fastest torrent downloads, ensure that:

    - you get a lot of seeds (you cannot do much about that but use trackers from sites such as mininova, piratebay, etc.
    - do not do parellel downloads and surfing. Leave the torrent for downloading overnight.
    - ensure port forwarding (see below)

This Yellow tick mark means that your port is not forwarded properly. It should be green. Refer to PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall on how to port forward. Also there are many articles here on how to do it.

You do not need to access the BSNL site. The port must be opened on your own modem/router. You have to enable NAT-DMZ on your UT-300R2U modem.

There is many threads on the same topic on this forum - I am sure that you will find an answer.

in your LAN TCP/IP settings set IP address as 192.168.1.x where x can be any no. between 3 to 253.e.g.192.168.1.4 also set default gateway as 192.168.1.1 & dns as automatic.now when you try 192.168.1.1 you should see a scrren asking for username/password.use admin/admin.

    Red face

Ok.. I use the same connection/plan as of the topic creator and face the same problem with utorrent. I read the 'Port forwarding' procedure and a bit confused.. I want tomake sure, b4 i try it, that it is safe, legal, it wont change any vital settings, and have a little doubt that.. suppose if u do the 'Port forwarding' for 1 software, will it affect the download speeds of others??

yes!that's pppoe.port forwarding won't affect download speed of other softwares if setup correctly.TCP & UDP are communication protocols & only thing you need to know is that any application accessing internet requires that the TCP/UDP communication is allowed at such ports which are then called open ports which that application use(e.g.ftp softwares use port 21).

this model provided by bsnl don't have a virtual server option.in advanced setup go to NAT-DMZ & enter your PC's IP there(192.168.1.x).

no port forwarding option is available in ut300r2u provided by bsnl.you have to use DMZ & yes its less secure but then if you use a good antivirus & firewall your security is as good as in pppoe mode.anyway it doesn't matter if you use pppoe or bridge/DMZ if you don't have good security softwares installed your computer will get infected sooner or later.

I think you are in bridge mode. In bridge mode only u need to enter username and password.
In bridge mode all the ports are open.
Check in utorrent Options -- speed guide--check status of port.
It will show your connection status.
Check windows XP firwall settings ---in exceptions utorrent should be checked--

Yes i recently ot confirmed...i use bridge mode......
Welcome to the µTorrent Port Checker.
A test will be performed on your computer to check if the specified port is opened.

    Checking port 6112 on 117.198.224.110...

Error! Port 6112 does not appear to be open.

Please see PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall for more information about how to map a port.

Please make absolutely sure that PeerGuardian2 or Protowall is allowing utorrent.com (72.20.34.145) in either of those programs. Those of you using ipfilter.dat should make sure the list does not include the website's IP. After making sure of this, re-run this test by refreshing the page (F5).
I have no fire wall on

I have done the dmz settings

I Still get a yellow exclamation mark

Now, what Antivirus u r using?? Keep ur Windows Firewall On, if that is the only firewall u r using, Under exceptions Tab check utorrent.. Thats it.. Thats should be enough.. Give ur antivirus details.. Check whether its just Antivirus or Firewall included..

In Utorrent preferences enable UPnP and try again

Remember use static ip on network config.
