Default BSNL Dataone Review By Nishant

ok...here’s a simple yet useful review of my Dataone bb connection..

initially..i registered for it it thro’ the website..only to be dissapointed...since i got no calls, replies.so i decided to got to the bsnl office & register.it’s MISSION IMPOSSIBLE to get your work done at the bsnl office, since it’s a pain.the people there are crappy & unhelpful.so i filled up the reg. form and submitted it.2 days later i got a call saying that i registered

for the conection twice..yeah that’s thro the web & at the office.SO MUCH FOR LATE REPLIES !
so after a WEEK i got a confirmation call stating i’l get the connection within a week.to my utter dissapointment,it came after 4 weeks of the call.an unbearable wait.
the installation was immediate and i got connected to the net the same day.

so i got my bill this month...for Dec’25 -05 ::: Jan’31-06...it had minor errors in the billing part..especially the extra usage charges are never calculated accurately..menawhile,the browsing & download SPEEDS were acceptable but on sundays you’ll have a hard time connecting. Now for the so called ’’ NIGHT UNLIMITED ’’ feature.how many normal people would consider surfin & downloading from ’’2-8AM’’ ??? these are the ODD TIMINGS given for this feature.I’ve read across the web that some users get even their free usage ACCOUNTED for.

Coming to the SHoCker for the month of feb.
there i was checkin my usage on Feb’7-06 at the BSNL Portal, like i usually do.it was around 270mb(out of my 410mb/ H250 PLAN) the previous day..and now it was showing a shockin ’’2.10GB’’ !on further inspection..it showed that mb’s in the range of 700-800mb was being added in my usage by some *culprit* at bsnl.even more shocking was that these usages were added ,when my COMPUTER WAS SWITCHED OFF !!! i could only mean that someone is mysteriosly using my Account at bsnl..since they are the only people who can access my account or do such a thing..
Wait, ther’s more..i jus let 3/4 days pass by only to discover my already shocking usage was showing 4.5GB !!! i knew the sensible thing to do was change the password again..but there was no escape..as of now..it’s showing 4.9gb !!!

so as of now I HAVE used only arnd 570mb of the the 4.9gb..the remaining is left to BSNL.i didn complain about it to bsnl officials..some said IT CAN BE POSSIBLE & some advised me to speak to the accounts officer.Guess what ...now i ’m waiting for this ’’OUTRAGEOUS’’ bill to come & strike me..
on monday,i will be be going to the JTO’s office to speak about this & the have to see what will/can be done before the bill arrives.

if you thought i’m the only one having such problems/billing errors..jus got to google.com & search for ’’BSNL dataone billing errors, complaints’’
people are calling bsnl ’’A FRAUD’’ !!!

Conclusion: i’ve already decide to take up the ’’speed500’’ plan from airtel on recommendations from many of my friends.i’ve heard it’s damn good.you get an attractive unlimited usage option too..as far as dataone is concerned..i’ll have to wait till march to surrender the connection because the have this ’’minimum hire period’’ of 3 months..my (NIC)network interface card/LAN card which i bought for the connection is a waste now, since airtel provide’s USB modems and they DON’T NEED external power supply like bsnl’s modem does.dataone’s WEBMAIL client is also crappy.

so people, please don’t get fooled by this horrible state-run company’s service..i’d recommend to go for airtel..

details:
speed: 256kbps
security deposit(refundable) : rs.500
plan charges(for me):rs.250
modem rental:rs.100
extra charges: rs.1.40

Got to go.i wrote this review in a hurry, just tomake all of you aware of bsnl’s broadband service....your comments & enquiries are welcome

Default bsnl broadband wireless

1. getting a bsnl broadband connection is next to impossible (if u have managed to get one, consider urself lucky) 2. do not get a wireless modem; if u need it, get ur own wireless router. bsnl themselves will readily admit that there are bugs in their wireless modems 3. the connection is not consistent; sometimes, u will not be able to connect (and just when u really need to) 4. it isnt easy to get thru to customer care (u might have to be on hold for an hour or 2) n u will be put on hold again after u ask ur question, so that the agent can check with someone else what to do 5. if there is a problem, try to fix it urself, cuz its unlikely anyone in bsnl knows how to 6. finally, its a good service, provided it works, cuz if it doesnt, bsnl certainly cannot help u

i got myself a dataone wireless connection (bangalore). though i was charged from day 1, it was only activated 3 weeks later. there are days when i cannot connect at all, and then there are days that it is slower than my dial up. i have called the cuatomer care on various occasions only to be told that there is something wrong with all 3 of my family's laptops (though i have no trouble with the airtel connection that i have). so i have had to get myself a backup connection thanks to bsnl's unreliability

BSNL Issues:

a) Connections: very quick in some areas whereas dreadfully slow in others. I have found that new exchanges give almost immediate connection (within 10 days). I got my connection after 3 months (BSNL said that underground cabling work was going on in my area - which was true) whereas my friend got in 7 days.

b) Customer Service: It is almost impossible to get through the number. If it is possible visit the exchange personally. In Pune (where I live), the service desk is friendly (contrary to my expectation). But then it is not possible to sort technical issues by a personal visit - billing issues maybe. Technical persons at BSNL are not trained - look at it this way - why would a brilliant technician work for BSNL? BSNL simply believes that "God helps those who help themselves"

c) Tariff Plans: BSNL has the best offers. Its Home 250 plan is almost unbeatable - just the sort that light users, older (non-technical) people need. Combined bill with telephone means that you have only one bill to pay. Many competitors provide pre-paid plans only for home use (e.g. Tata Indicom).

d) Speed: Occasionally drops to too slow (< 100 kbps) for a small time window (< 5 mins) but on an average people do get (70~80%) of the promised speed. One might ask "why not 100%?"; yeah! there is room for considerable improvement. I have not had experience with others but I believe that the same is case with others and some such as Sify are much worse (from what I heard).

e) Value for Money: Definitely. In spite of all issues and problems, BSNL is more reliable than others; plans are reasonable and speeds are usually guaranteed.

Now this is the reason i like to get unlimited packages because i am tension free of my usage. Like when i was with BSNL my monthly bills were between 5000 - 7000 per month.

1.time to get connection depends on the no. of free slots in ur local exchange.i got my connection activated in 3days & the installion guys came the next day and my connection was up and running on the 4th day(knowing sum1 in bsnl or any government office always helps)!!my friend who lives just 30 kms away from me still dint get his connection & he applied 2 months back!!
2.I hav no idea how they calculate extra usuage but they use a different method every time!!sometimes i get 2-12rs extra and 1 time i got1220rs extra when i had only used 600 mb above the limit!
3.as previously said BSNL has the best offers&tarrifs
4.dont ever call customer care!!even 3rd standard kids know more abt computers than them!!i think the admins&members of indiabroadband.net will be more than willing to help you out in times of trouble.(by the way customer care sucks totally in all departments in india, its not just government!!)
5.if u hav more than 1 telephone line use multiple splitters!!otherwise ur speeds could decrease drastically and u get disconnected every time a phone is used!
6.dsl and dial up and totally different technologies!!u have to tweak your computers setting a lot to get the optimum speeds!BSNL might suck at everything else but their speeds are amazing!!i always get 85-90% of the advertised speed(&now because of some testing going on in my region i get double the advertised!!)

i hav only two complaints abt bsnl!!i)since recently i am not able to connect from around 8-9pm it says invalid user name and password(wtf)i dnt know if it is some bsnls server problem or sum1 trying to fcuk with my account(though the logs dont show any suspicious activity!ii)limited usage!!2.5GB??i downloaded more than that in a month when i was on dialup!!when will the day come when we like our brothers in the us can get 120GB limit per month on a 8mbit connection instead of just night unlimited on 2mbits!!though i get more than 90GB a month using night unlimitedi would like to sleep peacefully without having to worry whether my computer will get fried by power surges or thunder storms!!
