Default Unable to open certain websites when used AVG8.0 anti virus/spyware

    Hi,

I am unable to open certain websites e.g. timesofindia.com, mcdpropertytax.in, economictimes.com,etc when I upgraded AVG7.5 anti-virus to AVG8.0 which also includes anti-spyware. Even if I uninstalled AVG8.0 it is still not opening these websites.
However I am able to view these websites using my same BSNL broadband on other PC.

Please can anyone help. I believe these sites may have got blocked by the anti-spyware but I unable to find it.

    Thanks

Did you check in Internet explorer (your browser) for any sites listed in blocked list?

Try switching to a different browser, as suggested above, either firefox or opera, if you still get that issue, you can actually check whether it was due to avg software or not by disabling it and trying to visit those sites again.

If everything stated above fails to solve your problem then you can try to switch to open DNS servers which are

    primary DNS: 208.67.220.220
    secondary DNS: 208.67.222.222

Default Still unable to open sites

    Hi,

I looked in the restricted sites area on Security tab on Internet options in IE. There are no sites listed for blocking.

I have installed Firefox and getting the same problem i.e. unable to open sites mentioned earlier

Any other solution plz? I shall try the IP addresses for DNS Server and update the forum.

    Cheers

are you sure AVG is uninstalled completely.search for avg named files in your computer especially in C drive-->WINDOWS folder & program files folder.go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc & in there look for a file named hosts.open it with notepad & delete all lines containing the names of sites you want to open if there are such lines.ex--127.0.0.1 name of website.

I checked it again there are no files or folder with name as '*AVG*'.

I checked both hosts and lmhosts file and commented entry for 127.0.0.1 localhost.

It's still not working. Don't understand what is the issue. Any comments please.

    Thanks
