Default What all is required for a cyber cafe?

    Hi all,

I am looking to set up a cyber cafe with 4 to 5 computers.

i already have a 256 kbps umlimited BSNL plan.

I need to know what all things i require like what kind LAN, Switches, routers, UPS, battery supply, network tools etc.

i have frequent power outage in my area so i need a UPS system with atleast 2 Hour back up ... so which UPS and how many batteries to use

Please give all the details. It would be of great help to me

Always go for buisiness plan otherwise BSNL may fine a huge amount if there is some complaint. Similar thing happened to my friend also. Morover 256kbps connection is may not provide that much speed and downloads. Go for Business 3000 plan if your budget permits.

right.. UL750 would be quite slow for 5 computers.. try getting a business plan..since you are only connecting 4 to 5 pcs.. you could buy the bsnl modem and an additional hub for the network..

    As stated above:

    a) You will have to go with a business plan. You cannot opt for any Home plan. BSNL is quite clear on this. You can start with a lower end business plan and then go for a higher one, once business picks up.

    b) All PCs must have an AV software and Firewall - go for Kasperkey suite. It is quite good.

    c) You must create XP accounts that are part of the "Users" group. "Users" group have limited priveleges and will not be able to install software on your machines. Only through these accounts must you allow the users to login.

    d) You will also require an account management software. This software will allow the users to login and record usage. Based on the usage you can charge the customers. If this is not possible you can then implement a token system. You can issue the token as the customers walk in, record the in-time and take back the token once they leave and marking the time-out. You can then charge accordingly.

    e) The police require that you keep records of all consumers - but you are probably aware of this.

    Thanks for all your replys....

yes i will go for 3000 BSNL commercial plan

many people are suggesting to have alternate internet connections( more that 1 connection of BSNL, or other providers, airtel etc ?) it this really required ?? if so which connection( reliance, tata, airtel) is best and economical ? which plan?

Also it would be of great help if any one can provide more details about UPS, Back up batteries and networking tools required..

    Thanks in advance

    folks,

I have designed a sample cyber cafe network which i thought would help cafe owners to build a secure and easy troubleshooting network. I request ppls to have a look on it and give me ur valuable suggestions.

    http://skapadmin.net/images/Cyber_Cafe_Network.bmp (2.5MB)

I have not included additional broadband line, now i think that i should include it as a point. I am also thinking of creating another sample wifi cyber cafe network.

nice & detailed.one suggestion i would like to give is that some newbie/novice users to networking might get confused by the notation 192.168.1.2/24 etc so give some kind of info about this somewhere in guide.

awesome work skap........... gr888888888 layout keep it up just one thing about the UPS i think your assumption is wrong that UPS of 600VA will give a backup of 20 mins its only theoretical in reality it hardly gives 10mins with a PIV 17" CRT monitor

yes player practically it provides lessthan 20 mins backup. I do need to make changes in Power backup column. Can anyone help me in framing UPS backup required for 10 machines+switch+modem? How many and what spec of batteries are required?

Sujith - I think you had missed to see the one in bulletin. I mentioned it in recommended desktops settings.

Many honest people come in Cybercafe's to post their resumes and download stuff. If you disable USB's how will they do that? They will simply go elsewhere.

(As I mentioned earlier) I would recommend strong AV software that is regularly updated, should be used. Also never allow local 'admin' rights to users so that they cannot install any software on the machine.

Yes then also people can download for that, enable the usb port of server and make shared folder on each clients . If somebody wants to take some downloads they can take it from the server with permission. Can make some free download limits also and excess downloads can be charged.

And also opened USB port is considered as Level 5 (major) thread. It is recommended to disable the usb port as USB viruses started spreading in network.

Thanks for all for taking your valuable time in helping me out.

Regarding UPS i was told by one of my friend to have a 1KVA UPS with minimum of 2 batteries to get at least 1 hour of back up for 4 Computers+ Accessories at a time.....

But i am really still confused because some others say i at least require 2KVA UPS with 4 batteries to run 4 to 5 computers + Accessories for at least 1 to 1 1/2 hours ??

Which one do you people think is economical ....

also how much external batteries could be attached to 1KVA and 2KVA UPS ? and which UPS and Batteries efficient APC, Luminus, Microtech... ??

    Please give your thoughts
