U can change your modem if it is in rent basis also. It is the responsibility of BSNL to replace the same . U are in which mode? PPPoE or bridge?

firstly its better to connect via LAN.. bridged mode is when you require to dial to connect to the internet.. ppoe mode is where internet works as soon as you switch on your modem

Check the status of your line and SNR values. If not within limits contact exchange to verify and change the line.

I've not used this modem which u have. some one else in this forum may guide u. Go to modem configuration setup using http://192.168.1.1 there u will get the information on SNR values.

Idon't think there may be some problem with your adapter. It can nothing to do with ADSL link. Launch a compliant to BSNL office and get the line checked. Clean the joint on distribution Box(assuming connection to your residence is taken from cable, terminated on a DB) (actually it is the job of line man but ....)
