just configure the modem in pppoe mode(in which you get connected by just turning on the modem).after that you have to just setup the networking in linux.if you still have some problems then contact me.i have this c2110 modem & i am using XP & i have used it in linux too by using knoppix live cd.go to connection settings & click on red pencil in front of connection 0_35_ to edit connection properties.in the screen where you are asked to select between various protocols choose pppoe instead of bridging.after this you will be asked to enter your bsnl username/password.enter it without @dataone.in.i heard ubuntu is very user friendly so you should not have any trouble in selecting correct network settings.

yea.. if dhcp is enabled in your modem.. then go to system->admin->network and set your ethernet card to DHCP by clicking on properties.. if you use bridged mode and want to continue doing that.. go to the terminal and type sudo pppoeconf and follow instructions..
